I've decided to delve into the archives and pull this thread back up to the fore.

I'm interested to know what people think of maduro cigars - there are a few more people about now, so wondered what the prevailing thoughts were...

I usually lean towards a maduro wrapper, though some of the almost black ones are a little overpowering. I read somewhere the word comes from the spanish for "ripe", as the wrapper takes longer to produce.

They seem to suit my palete a lot better than lighter wrappers, with a few exceptions, they always seem taste stronger.

I'm also a fan of maduros (maddies). I find that the wrapper is better aged and thus more mellow so the filler can be stronger and you will still get a well rounded or smooth overall smoke.

The Hoyo Dark Sumatra is a prime example as well as the NC Partagas Black. The latter being a 'sweet' cigar to my palette. And by 'sweet' I'm thinking more of scallops or crab then of candy and sugar since there is an accompanying richness to the overall profile. But there are quite a few out there to try and some are better then others...just gotta smoke em all
Trying is the first step toward failure.

I like that comparison, i find some of the very dark maduros sweet to taste if you chew on them, and the crab comparison is spot on.

                Daily.

Tried the entire Cohiba Maduro range and loved them all, although I think the Genios was the winner IMO. I do enjoy a Maduro wrapper now and again, not sure if I could do one daily though.

Yep, I'm a fan of maduro wrapped cigars, it was the Phillies "Titan Black" that got me started on maduro wrapped sticks

In saying that, I'm going to try and have a good selection of cigars with various different wrappers, but Maduro wrapped cigars are definitely my favourite

I have had my only maduro experience with this cigar, although it is a fairly cheap smoke it was nice and sweet and good with a nice spirit.

I have a maduro in the humi at the moment so might give that a go this weekend and let you know.

I have mixed feelings with Cuban maduros. Sometimes they can be over dominant and kill the balance of the smokes. Interesting to note the general lack of maduro wrappers in CC's compared to NC's.

That may be due to Non Cubans being aged longer, or using aged leaves so they are more "ready" to smoke straight from the shelf, were as cubans are produced technically to age. The maduro wrappers take longer to produce, thus being used more on non cubans

I may be talking out of my arse, I don't know tbh
