I'm afraid most teachers feel patronised to death to have to sit through presentations like the one I referred to.

Mind you, everyone's a kiddy-fiddler these days. Everyone's a suspect. Not just teachers.

You're very kind, Nic. I do like to outpour somewhat online.

I try and keep myself discreet on the web, but it can get difficult to maintain various online identities with zero crossover for extended periods of time.

You have the advantage of having a username that is indistinguishable from a certain size of cigar, so a google of 'Robusto' isn't going to turn up too much directly related to you.

I don't look too much like my avatar. Which upsets me.

        Welcome to Britain indeed, Dave.
How bloody depressing it can be.

I even caught Esther Rantzen - she of Childline - saying that the paranoia of too many checks is changing the national psyche.

That from a woman I've always considered slightly barmy about checks herself!

I get annoyed when i'm tagged on facebook, either from a night out, casual shots, anything really. Im amazed people put family pics up, holiday snaps. I just dont understand. It's a big break in privacy, gotta think of all those people you add. I just dont like it.

Dont mind a pic of me on a forum, no ones ever 'discoverd' me on the forums I go on, so I dont think it matters tooooo much.

                Classic modern 'toon

But Bryan has a point about on-line identity and potential impact in the professional world. There's definately cross over in shite like FaceSpace.

It's a 'kin nuisance not to be able to indulge sometimes as deep or darkly (take ya pick, I'm only talking about humour here) as you'd like for fear of recrimination from the webnazis.

I dropped a right bollock picking my avatar name, some good clues there methinks.

Deano, any chance I can change it to something smokey?

I even edited half of what I typed out during this post. Sad

Bloody right Mr B. Cheeky barstools. Invasion of photogenic privacy and what about artistic licence?

But seriously, it's a pain in the arse. I've seen a few of me on relatives pages, and it bugs me like you (you don't bug me, it does) It doesn't even have to be tagged, just a pic there.

Have you tried setting Photos tagged of you in Privacy>Profile to Only Me? Nobody would be able to search for pictures of you. Even if you aren't on facebook, you can't stop people writing your name against a face on a photo though. It's the nature of the Beast...

I think there is something to be said about keeping private whilst also enjoying a life on the internet. I have always been very careful in giving out details of myself, be it in pictures or phone numbers etc. Too many clever people out there able to use stuff like that for their own ends.

Facebook! I think people who use that know what they are getting into so don't really have a leg to stand on in complaining about being tagged etc. That's the whole point of social network sites like that so if you don't like it, don't use them.

I have family and friends who are teachers and in the police and they have been told not to use them for a variety of reasons.

I think everybody has their own level of privacy that suits themselves, be it forced on them due to their career or personal preference. Either way it has to be respected.

                          .

What he said. I heard a report today that people are starting to withdraw from the site because of the lack of privacy. There is even a term for searching out old "friends" called "retro sex" or something like that. Causing a lot of problems I'm told.
