  • Beatles Remasters

Any of you Beatles fans? my errm friend Don Lode gave me all the new remasters and while I love Revolver have never really given much time to any of the other albums.... any pointers on which one to stick on the ipod ?

    Abbey Road.
    Sgt Peppers.

I get fed up when there's clearly a commercial BANG going on all at once.

I hear at six o'clock on BBC News that there's "even" a computer game out... and I walk into my Sainsbury's at seven o'clock and there's the game blaring out overhead.

I just don't like blitzes... but I'll get over it...

Ditto plus The White Album and Rubber Soul...the early stuff's a bit too pop-py for me. I think they developed (ie found drugs) at the Rubber Soul/Revolver stage then made some of the greatest songs ever after that...esp. Abbey Road

Is all the recent media hype because of the Rock Band game? The Beatles have been in all the Sunday papers as well as a special Beatles evening on BBC2 on Saturday....?!?!

Dump it all on your IPod!

I grew up with the Beatles, muchachos. I also played in several bands, starting with music by the Beatles, adding a bunch of MoTown later, ending with the psychedelic stuff (Jimmi, Cream, Zeplin, etc.)

I have all the original stuff sold on this side of the pond on vinly and CD, including all the solo stuff they put out after the Beatles...not Wings so much, though.

My most recent purchase was was the fabulous mix by George Martin and son, for the Cirque du Solei "Love."

If you are a Beatles fan and haven't heard this mix yet, you gotta' git it. It made my sister, Catalina cry!

My opinon, put it all your Ipod....I did.

I own most of their albums. I am very wary of re-masters for anything that I have a close affinity to. The reality is that cleaning up floor noise and maximising dynamic range changes the character of the sound. Whilst this is desirable on a new recording it will not necesercerely increase your enjoyment of tracks you know and love (and have been listening to for 40 years).

Once or twice over the years I have bought a remastered version of an old fave and have never been able to enjoy them.

A producers job is to sculpt a sound utilising the equipment and musicians available. To then, 40 years later, start tweaking is a significant change. No one would go to great paintings and start enhancing the colour because pigment technology has moved on.

                          Still JMHO, rant over.

Oh senor Nic...you're such a purist. Your so-called disappointment with remasters is more likely a function of age - the inability to hear the high and low frequencies anymore.

But what the fuck to I know....I'm still listening to music on my 8-track player and a walkman when I go mobile....

Names TJ, TJCoro, and what's a "IPod?"
