It's a bit too wanky for my taste....full of adverts for yachts, supercars etc

The ECCJ is magic though...comes out quarterly: http://www.cigar-cult.at/englisch/1x.htm

With you, SBoy. Wanky I meant by implication, and that's why I stopped subscribing to that mag.

At a tangent, any readers of French will pick up a couple of really good French cigar magazines concentrating on puros, wine and vineyards, great cuisine and sometimes hunting. (Hunting has stacks of mags over there). A smattering of actors, singers, actresses.

The French mags don't seem too up themselves, and also don't visit really silly money territory.
They deal with matters Havana exceptionally well.

      My holiday reading.

I had a flick through Simon's copy at the Cardiff herf and I was shocked at the number of ads in it. That alone put me off.

WTF, Did hell freeze over? I'm getting a bit worried now about our BOTL TJ. Someone get him a seat and a glass of water...

I think I read two informative posts of his in the last 24hrs without a smart arsed remark!

          Are you feeling OK hombre?

I have been a loyal subscriber to Cigar Aficionado for many years and I'm also a member of it's forum, which I check in on from time to time, but much less after discovering this fine forum.

I also subscribe to Cigar Magazine and Smoke, but have since dropped my subscription to Smoke, due to so-so articles and no review of find habanos, at least that I recall. They primarily cater to the American market and the n/c smoker.

The three primary reasons I continue with Cigar Aficionado are 1) the cigar reviews, which somewhat reflect my taste and I think include a worthy selection of Habanos, considering it's primarily an American magazine, 2) the James Suckling articles on Cuba, which I find useful and entertaining, and 3)the connnisseur's corner, which reviews vintage habanos, including puros from the 60s, which I find useful in judging the advantages of aging puros.

With respect to Cigar Magazine, I don't really rely on the cigar reviews as much as I do with CA, but I love Simon Chases' articles on Cuba and learn quite a bit from them. Also, it is aimed more at the middle class (whatever that is) rather the the upper class, like CA.

I think both mags are worthy reads. Smoke mag, not so much.

Hope you find this information useful.

Judging from the comments what I'm getting is CA is a magazine full of ad's, a little bit about cigars which is decent and the rest is a lifestyle magazine for gazillionaires. Which is a bit off puting.

I'll pop into borders and check it out with a few of the other titles mentioned here. I noticed there was a recent issue with Jay Z on the cover which I found interesting, anyone got that lying around that they can send my way? I'll gladly send a nice puro your way as a gesture of my appreciation. I saw that you can purchase back issues direct from the CA website but they want around $30

            Anyone help me out?

I take me puro reading very seriously and try to show the proper reverance for such holy material

I'd definitely second the recomendation for the European Cigar Cult Journal.

Much more cigar content, particularly if you're specifically interested in Cubans.

The few articles and reviews that are of interest to me, I read from the website (its all there I think), I too enjoy reading James Suckling's articles and blog, but buying the mag just isn't worth it to me now.

Loads and loads of non-cuban advertising, and golf (which I don't like!)
"By the cigars they smoke, and the composers they love, ye shall know the texture of men's souls." John Galsworthy
"A good Cuban cigar closes the door to the vulgarities of the world." Franz Liszt
"The most futile and disastrous day seems well spent when it is reviewed through the blue, fragrant smoke of a Havana Cigar." Evelyn Waugh
"Remember, commander, no cigars before launch." a Cuban doctor's orders to an astronaut at Cape Canaveral

I finally got around to digging through some magazine back issues I have sitting around here. I found the one I was thinking of, I mentioned it in another post a few weeks back as it has an article by Simon Chase about smoking in the UK and my local Hotel du Vin (Tunbridge Wells) is featured. The magazine is "Cigar Magazine". It is not a monthly publication (new issues quarterly) but it is the most cigar centric cigar magazine I have yet found. Here is the publications website :-

Just thought I would add this, it really is worth a read.

                      T.
"In Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love, they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock!"
