When I see a cigar I?m thinking of trying the first thing I do is check Cgars for the basic information, general reviews etc but then I check the tasting notes and click onto Cigar aficionado.

What surprises me with their ratings is NC?s are always in their top ratings but generally Cubans are seen as the premium selection, Im just wondering the reasoning behind this? Is there a bias on here towards CC?s or a bias there towards NC?s?

Ultimately the ratings don?t really mean a great deal as what they rate highly I might not enjoy as we all enjoy different things but if I hadn?t found this place first I would assume NC?s are the way to go, cheaper and higher rated.

Be interesting to hear some opinions from the guys on here.

Also to save starting a new thread what?s the minimum temperature you should store your cigars? Mine are in the back of a wardrobe away from all radiators and pipes so it?s generally colder in there than the rest of the house especially overnight when the heating isn?t on for 8 or so hours.

It might have something to do with the NC companies being owned wholly or partly by large American corporations who might pay for advertising space in said magazine. Does it still come with a pinch of salt?

Don?t worry too much about temperature fluctuations, it?s humidity that?s the more important bit. In the summer my cigars can be 75F but it?s never been an issue.

This. Why promote a product that most of your readership cant buy? The cuban reviews they have are mostly lip service. Especially since they only smoke an inch of each cigar they review.

Basically its a little bit better than useless, especially when it comes to cubans. Much better looking for reviews on the various forums in my opinion.

Cigar Aficionado has never been the best source when it comes to cigar reviews, and as was already mentioned reviews in general are limited anyway as it all comes down to personal preference.

I was wondering this just today myself actually. Because of the historical embargo are there way fewer CCs in the US maybe and they're just used to NCs? On reddit the yanks seem to smoke almost exclusively NCs.

I might be wrong with this but I?ve always assumed profit margins must be better on NCs or they offer better incentives to the stores as they do always seem to be pushing them more. Or maybe that?s just because Cubans sell themselves and you have to market NCs or everyone would ignore them

The embargo does not seem to prevent those Americans that want to from smoking Cubans. In fact the source of my Cuban custom rolls is American.
