The Trinidad to the South (South-east) of Havana.

We've decided to stay there for a few days after Havana and not to head east from Havana towards the main tobacco-growing valley areas.

    Anybody know it? Do tell!

    When?

Trinidad is supposed to be a really nice place from what I have read.

When are you due to head over on holiday Bryan?

      Late October, Craig.

My older son David is frightened to death of flying so I am getting him Valium'd up courtesy of the doctor.

I had to sit on him on a flight back from Montpellier once.

Poor sausage. I know the feeling oh so well. I HATE (really, really hate) flying. It scares the pants off me. Always has done. I managed a trip to the Caribbean once - never again. Barbados airport is enough to put anyone off for life in anycase.

Has anyone got Valium for a flight?

My mate said she did a trip on a Valium trip and felt like an angel. She even managed to get out of her seat and relieved herself in the toilet.

My son is now bigger than me. I can no longer sit on him.

My younger son is lovely and is always seemingly on a trip anyway. No sky high concerns.

Probably just as well, people might have asked questions had she done it anywhere else...

Not of much help in this situation, in fact, arguably, the opposite...

I can't remember what film it was in, but I can remember a very funny little exchange whereby a very large guy on a flight was berating someone sat nearby for being a homosexual - which "isn't natural". At which point the bloke in question turned around to the very large guy and informed him that he was "travelling at almost the speed of sound, in a pressurized aluminium tin can at 33,000ft"... now, that's not natural.

PS. Has anyone noticed how they always show the air disaster movies just as the schools break up for summer holidays...

It's not dignified when your sons are four to five inches taller than you.

I have a new dog being driven here right now and I'm sitting on top of a wardrobe in the front room to be a convincing Leader Of The Pack.

And you do right to ask what this has to do with Trinidad cos I don't know.

                  cryptic.

I was waiting for some cryptic link between wardrobes and Trinidad.

I have always wanted to visit Pinar Del Rio, and I know Trinidad is between there and Havana.

Perhaps on my next time in the UK I could head over there and do some recon on the area, prior to you heading over later in the year.

                  You just never know.

I have been to Trinidad on a day trip from our base near Havana. It was a gruelling slog by anyones standards and only myself, the wife and two Australian dentists went by hired taxi! However it was worth the journey just to see a bit more real life in Cuba on the way.Trinidad was pleasant with cobbled streets and the usual chilled out atmos. Enjoy!

                          That's excellent, mate.
Was the taxi cheap? Reliable? Well driven?

Driver was great we stopped off in a few places on route -I cant remember the names now! Price wise it was maybe 75 quid per couple? Only drawback was it took so long to get there we didnt have too much time in Trinidad itself - it may have had much more to offer certainly touted as a major hangout for pirates in their day! Would put some photos on here if my wife shows me how to do it (Im an IT idiot im afraid)!

This is useful insider information, Pligster. Thank you!

I've just bought a new guide on Havana:

                              Wallpaper City Guide: HAVANA
                              Phaidon Press Limited, 2007

                              It is FANTASTIC.

It has wonderful pictures of bars, restaurants and terraces in Havana that have woken me up to have varied the city is.

I've put aside the guidebooks that were putting the wind up me a little!

I would seriously recommend this little brief photo-based guide to anyone who is interested in Havana, whether travelling there or not.

It has got me very excited. I intend to sit about in the best bars in these pictures smoking large ones a hell of a lot!
