  • The North And The South Of It

Played in a band near Sheffield at the weekend when away for a few days.

    Good fun.

Cannot believe how CHEAP the beer is up there compared to down here in Kent.

Why is it such a financial rip-off to live in the South?

Tell me because I don't get it at all.

Don't tell everyone the secret of the North! The further you go... the better it gets.

...until you reach the Langdales in the Lake District. Then it doesn't get any better.

Six more days... then I'll be on the decking, about ten feet from a weir, smoking something which I'm sure will be exceptionally pleasant.

In Deal there is a place where they charge ?3.80 for a pint of lager.
            It ain't Covent Garden.

Reminds of the story of creation. God creates Scotland and gives it beautiful lochs, glens and plains.

Gabriel says, "Hey lord, isn't that a bit much to give to one country?"

Lord replies, "Maybe Gabe, but wait till you see who I give them for neighbours......"

I would love to be a Scot.

Apart from the beautiful scenescape, you get a convincing French accent when you change your tongue. It's the clear vowels. (Stevieboy chatted up all sorts that way in halls, I seem to recall).

I'm a quarter Irish. I think all Englanders are.

Before he went into the Army, my Dad was a lighterman on the river where Gryf Rhys-Jones (sp?) was last night and my Dad also rowed at that rowing club. I was envious.

You can get from Ebbsfleet (Kent) to Brussels in less time than the train journey from Deal to London.

We spent a Summer holiday in a cottage in Northumberland once. A quest holiday. I was born up there but didn't know the area.

The cottage was handed over to us by the owner at the start of August. There was a fire burning in the living room. I said 'What's That For?', and was told 'Oh! You'll See!'.

We never put the fire out through that month, and it was freezing on every beautiful beach despite the sun shining brightly.

As I drove South to the land of rip-off beer on Sunday afternoon, the sun got warmer and warmer...
