  • Help needed: old light fitting

Trying to tap into the collective for some help.

Trying to repair or replace the broken lamp fitting on the right. The arrow shows a broken pin. Can they be replaced? Any contacts?

The holder has a symbol and 2/250 pressed into it. Any ideas what that is?

Were struggling to find parts that fit.

It's an old wall light MLW found ages ago.

    TIA!

    B.

If it is just the pin, any brass batten holder for a BC lamp should do. Judging from the photo, the lamp might be old but the batten holder is newish.

Thanks Steve I will keep looking. The inserts from other lamps ive seen so far have different shaped base on the pins than this one, no luck yet.

This one is a SBC. I've looked at 4 others so far and the pins either do not come out or are completely different shape to be able to replace the broken pin.

I wouldn't try to replace just the pin, replace the whole piece. I think if you dismantle a regular battten holder the the inner part is interchangeable. This is assuming that the lamp is a standard size bayonet fitting.

Ah understood. Mine is 21mm the others have been 19mm and don't sit snug. They move around a bit so are unusable. This is why i was wondering about the symbol and 2/250 that might tell me something about the sizing maybe?

Ok. Is the threaded ring the same diameter or is it that that is 21mm on the old and 19mm on the replacement ones?

I think the 2/250 is probably 2 pin 250v but may be wrong

21mm is the diameter of my white insert. 19mm is the width of the 3 other inserts I've tried.

The thread of my holder is a bit bigger than the other holders too.

Is it bayonet or Edison screw?

Edit... Stupid question... I can see the bayonet receivers in the pic

If all else fails, either wrap some tape round the smaller inserts or bin it!

B22 holders come in 10mm thread and older 1/2" thread. Are you trying 10mm units in a 1/2" case and that's your problem?

Ah cool so this one is SBC so B15 from what I can see. I'll check if I can find an imperial B15 then. Perhaps what we tried so far is metric.
