I can't remember who said a week or so ago that a certain famous online reviewer soaks his beads in water but I've just got a bag for my new humidor and apart from saying that they're ready to go straight away it also says never to leave them standing in excess water. Water should be added sparingly. Mind you that reviewer also cuts his cigars square off removing all the cap, nuff said

I have used them for years. I had a sack in my Aristocrat, which I sprayed through the sack & worked well enough. I also had various pots fill of beads, in drawers of my humi's & Coolidors, I poured these ingto a margarine tub & started of spraying them & stirring but later found it easier & just as efficent to pour a little Deminerasiled water on them & stir, so 50% are getting wet.
However, I have just topped everywhere up with 65% large Boveda packs, just leaving a cup of demineralised in the Aristocrat for the fans to blow the humidity around. I found that leaving the beads for 3/52 was asking too much, they coped when I was on a 2week rota but 3wks not so much. The Boveda seem to be doing the job fine & I have dated the packs & will let you know how long they keep recharging for, I am hoping they'll last a year+; based on how long I have been recharging the small pocket sized packs for.

I find my heartfelt beads are okay, but do seem to need a fairly regular recharge. 65% Boveda packs seem to be far easier.

Surely if you're recharging regularly that's down to air getting in. So don't open so much or seal em up!

FTR I've 2 large bovedas packs and RH shield beads and crystals in my cabinet and holds 68ish for ages between top ups. Ages being easy 4 weeks.

Good call. I pulled the humidor out from the wall and the hole where the lighting strip comes out was open. Lights removed and hole sealed. Lets see what difference that makes over the next few weeks.

I have never used or seen these before,i remember seeing a few reviews about them on youtube though,most people seem to like them

If you want beads to last ... don’t get them wet .

Have been using silica beads for about 20 years ... I never EVER get them wet .

some of the older ones are a bit discoloured (brown) but all still work fine .

add a moisture source .. I use a small block of florists foam ... it will recharge the beads .

Not thought of this Derrek. Where's the moisture source in relation to the beads? Any where the hygrometer? Got any pics? (Any excuse for cigar porn)

I am about 500 Kms from my stash right now so no pics ... I will (if I remember) when I get home .

pretty simple really ... I bought a couple of plastic soap dishes for travel ... drilled about nine holes in the top and then cut a piece of foam to fit inside the soap dish ... now I just remove the top and soak the foam ... then place in my cooler(s) ... wait about three days and remove humidity from cooler .

a alternate way would be ... remove beads and put in a separate container with wet foam ... wait 3 days and return beads to cooler/humi ... never done this tho .
