MacBook or Chromebook?

I'm in the market for a new laptop. Have always used Apple for pretty much everything until a year or two ago when I switched from an iPhone to a Samsung and haven't really looked back since. As my MacBook Pro could do with replacing, I am looking at either a new MacBook Pro or a Chromebook. Does anyone have any experience with the latter? I have an iPad Pro (that despite the marketing isn't a laptop replacement) several 'normal' iPads and a desktop iMac so most of my files are committed to the Apple ecosystem... not sure that's enough of a reason to stick though if the Chromebook is better overall. Main uses are word processing and photo/video/music editing, so whichever I go for has to be able to deal with multiple large files with ease. Comments and suggestions welcomed!

Chromebook are seriously under powered. Apple are streets ahead

However chrome books are much cheaper as google subsidises the cost I believe

I wouldn?t see by a windows laptop as it?s what I?m use to

What software/hardware are you using for music editing, because I think this will really make the decision for you. From wht I can tell nothing is compatible with Chromebook apart from native chrome apps. I personally use NI Maschine, Traktor Pro and Ableton and so I think Chromebook is a non-starter for me. (I've also moved from iOs to Android - mobile is not an issue (but no iMaschine...yet ) ) but when you're talking about production/editing/mixing, for me it's Mac or bust. I'm also in the market for a new macbook as my workhorse from late 2009 is starting to suffer a little.

Edit: Having done a little research, to run e.g. Ableton or Fruity Loops , you would have to install Windows or Linux on the Chromebook....so I'm assuming the same for any other non-chrome software...ergo, get a windows laptop or another macbook

Windows laptops better option for me personally . I?m not down on Apple outside of phone . But chrome books are shite as folk say

I use Sibelius and Logic Pro, sometimes Garageband for very simple tasks (like cutting a track; the interface just makes it quick and easy). I thought I might have to stick with a MacBook Pro. I was going to complain about the price, but like you, I have had mine for many years so it's certainly paid for itself at this stage.

If you need processing power and the ability to run professional apps then it has to be a MacBook or a Windows laptop.

If you know someone in higher education they'll be able to get you a Macbook with a very good discount and effectively free Apple care for 3 years which although won't include helpline support it will cover hardware failure / repairs.

If you're looking at using Sibelius/Logic then yeah you'll need the Macbook.

You could maybe get an equivalent/better Windows laptop for the money, but that depends if you have any brand preferences

A new MacBook Pro it is. Plus the handoff feature from my desktop iMac is handy.
