Just thought, after reading a post about hardware in the New in the Post thread, that it might be an idea to have a thread to discuss what cameras we've got (and all other things camera). Given our lust for cigar porn, I thought it'd be nice to see the equipment.

    I'll start off.

    I've got an Olympus ? 1030SW:

I bought it primarily because I do a lot of stuff in conditions that most cameras don't like. I ski a lot - cold and wet aren't usually the friends of an electronic gadget... There is also the chance the I could land on it quite hard if I messed something up... I also sail quite a lot - again, water, not good. So, a camera that is water-proof, shock-proof, crush-proof and freeze-proof was ideal!

10.1MP - personally, selling the things most days, I wouldn't want anymore MPs on a compact. I'm not going to use the images for posters, so I don't need anymore size anyway, and I want to avoid the 'noise' that often accompanies higher MP pictures on compact cameras (the lense and capturing device aren't usually up to it).

It's proved to be very good for cigar shots as well as sports. Three different macro settings are perfect for different shots. I've got the 'long-range' macro for box shots, super-macro for close ups of cigars, bands and ash pictures, and a super-macro LED mode - which is great! The LED mode uses an LED light to light up an object for a macro shot, thus avoiding the bright/white areas were the flash to be used. It is very good actually, see below, a super-macro LED shot when it was almost pitch black... see the lack of overly bright spots - it provides quite a pleasant, soft lighting.

With the water-proof ability, it is also great for apres-ski in the bar. At about 2am, you'll always have someone who doesn't believe the camera is water-proof... So, I take a photo of the inside of their drink!

What's your weapon of choice then people?

Lovely camera Si - love the mju range...great lenses

I take most of my pics with my Nokia N95 these days. Great lens, a proper flash and a pretty damn good macro....amazing considering it's a phone...and a sat-nav....and an mp3 player...etc, etc, etc

2 x Nikon D300 bodies with MB-D10 grips, a selection of lenses including:
      600mm f4 lens
      300mm f2.8 lens
      70-300mm lens
      17-35mm lens
      50mm macro lens
and a few others, memory cards totalling over 30Gb, manfrotto tripod and a camera bag as big as a suitcase. I carry the big lens wherever I go birding and weighing quite a few pounds you notice it after a couple of hours. I like to use the macro on moths and insects, getting in real close. I shoot everything in RAW but try to get the picture right first time without processing it much later. I love to get out and photograph as much as possible.

I enjoy photography as one of my hobbies and have a few of cameras I use day to day:

          Nikon D90 with an MB-D80 batterypack/grip + various lenses

          Panasonic DMC-LX2

          Fujifilm Finepix Z

I am not going to bore you with the specific details, if you want to know them you can look them up. They are very different to each other and I use them according to their strengths.

The Fujifilm Finepix Z, which is very compact is to carry about when walking my dog for the "Damn, I wish I had a camera!" moments. Even in it's case it can be put in a jacket pocket and carried about without hassle when going out anywhere.

Bit like yourself there Paulie, except I've the LX1. Had it since it came out, bit noisy at times, but I won't be replacing it until it breaks (and if I can then!).

Steve, you get some great shots off your phone mate. Some of your earlier close ups on here were well impressive.

Simon, nice piece of kit there and a bonus being able to apres pic on/in the piss.

              Mothman, wellnuff said.

I've seen the Mothman's equipment and it's truly awesome.

I think I should also point out, as we know that the fragrant Mrs Moth reads these pages from time to time, that he takes her with him just to carry most of it around.

I have to say that the results he gets are truly wonderful.

Good idea, but only if you want him to catch the smallest bit of ash off your Cohiba from about 3 miles away Horseboy.
