My first computer was the Commodore VIC-20. Anyone remembers this one?

You must be my age. My first computer was the zx spectrum 48k.

I remember playing loads of Gauntlet on my friends Commodore 64. Before that he had a Vic 20.

Eye of the beholder on an Amstrad something with two floppy drives.

My cousin had an Oric 1.

But I struggle to recall the handhelds...

Later I played the hell out of a game called Kaiser on the C64.

The sad thing is that almost 40 years later I still can't use a computer properly!

I can remember the early computers. My first was the ZX81. Then followed by the Spectrum.
Also got a BBC Model B for my O level studies.

As for games, I had the Astro Wars mini console. Absolutely fantastic.

Whilst I agree with you in principle Jim, I'm not sure we can call computer games a fad anymore - the the original home games console was released 45 years ago and video games are now a major industry worth 10s of billions each year

Saying that, although i really enjoyed playing video games when I was younger (multiplayer GoldenEye on the N64 in particular!), I agree the best memories were playing outside

As a child growing up in the 70s and early 80s I had some of the last good times where you went out to play in the morning and only came back for tea.
Had a couple of these hand held games like donkey Kong jumping over barrels, or the desk top Firefox. Had an Orange Binatone console for tennis, football, etc which was the white sticks batting a white dot from side to side of the black and white TV.
Most of the time I was out playing on my Chopper or scrambling through woods building dens.
Now my kids just want to sit on tablets watching other people play minecraft or with dolls.

Those days are gone and no-one will ever have the joys of corduroy flares or paisley shirts

This brought some more back. Jet Pac, Ant Attack, Formula One. Elite.

It was great when Dungeons and Dragons went from physical to digital games! That sci fi fantasy thing is still with me.

Which reminds me I need to build a rig for elite dangerous...

The outdoor bit was there too! And still is too a degree thankfully.

That game bring back some good.memoroies.

I've also seen some RPi projects where they have created a retro console using all the popular game back in the day.
