  • Chewing tobacco & 'dip'

Has anyone tried any of these. My friend recently went to the states and brought back some redman chewing tobacco and a few cans of dipping tobacco( wintergreen/bourbon and straight)

I've tried all of them now but anyone else had the pleasure?

Step too far for me I'm afraid!

    What does one dip?

Your hopes and dreams - in the sheer hope that something will stick to them thereby distracting you from the tedium of existence...

...which may not last that long from the stories I've heard about the effects of chewin' tabacco.

Not had either I must say. I have always had my heart set on a road trip round the southern american states though - I think if I did I would probably indulge in some chewing tobacco just for cliche's sake!

I've had snus a fair bit on some Scandinavian travels though which is always enjoyable. I can be a bit of a nicotine junky sometimes (although this isn't at all related to cigars for the most part)

Chewing tobacco always just reminds me of Jesse Ventura in Predator!

I've never tried either... not sure I would want to either. I was watching an interesting video on snuff yesterday though... can't find the original video, but it was this chap taking a tour of the Gawith Mill, not the most appealing of practices when you see how it is made!

It is said to offer a performance-enhancing pick-me-up for crucial Commons tests of mettle... or chemical consolation for those found wanting. But do MPs still need their supply of snuff?

I went to Texas on business many years ago and took a day off to drive from Austin to San Antonio to see the Alamo. On the way back I diverted to the small town of Luckenbach (of the song fame), but fell foul of the old problem of a Brit underestimating the distances on a map of such a huge state. Long story short, I'm running on fumes in the middle of the Texas hill country as dusk arrives and feeling quite apprehensive. At last I see a filling station (OK, gas station) miles from anywhere, and pull in. I was already thinking of Psycho and the 'local' chainsaw massacre as I filled-up and made for the booth. No-one knew where I was - I didn't even know where I was! To my febrile mind it was just too perfect a set and 'straight from central casting' for a Stephen King when, on entering, instead of seeing the familiar display by the till of Wrigleys chewing gum and Jelly Babies, I saw twenty different brands of chewin' and spittin' (I kid you not) tobacco on the rack and was met by the boss-eyed stare (albeit with a welcoming smile) of the one armed attendant! You couldn't have made it up, and I've always thought of that when anyone mentions chewing tobacco... Enjoy the road trip.

I've tried everything and the chewing tobacco smella and tastes like raisins, not really offensive but the spit was an endless supply and a lovely shade of dark brown lol

The 'dip' is very fine, not so fine as snuff though. The smell was not as nice as the chewing tobacco( the wintergreen reminded me of deep heat lol). It burns alot and after a few mins I felt sick from the nicotine and had to sit down for 10 mins. It's an experience I never want to go through again, but I can see why this stuff is addictive with the amout of nicotine
