I was literally going to post this exact topic! Mine stopped working last night; a pretty basic filter machine but did the job perfectly. Will be watching this thread with interest.
Kick-start your morning with our amazing range of speciality coffee and equipment. World-class coffee, direct from the farmer, delivered free every time.
Overall those moka pots are nice but they need a bit of monitoring and I am late out the door most mornings, though admittedly a very nice brew.
The Andrew James linked by PeeJay, does have a programmable timer which might be just the thing. Will do a bit more looking into that one.
Very helpful of you all thanks for the suggestions.
That's an interesting little contraption, what are they called?
Some places seem to call them V60. I got a bunch of plastic ones from Monmouth Coffee. Single cup filters. Nothing much to clean. Quick rinse off the holder and bin the grounds.
Been using them for years now.

Bin the gounds?! They make great compost, tip them onto your garden or potted plants you wastrel
Used grounds are also good for throwing in a fire helps keep some bugs at bay.
V60 is added to the basket, something for the work desk and conversation piece. Staff love it when I make the place untidy
I agree entirely that it depends what you enjoy drinking. I have quite an expensive delonghi bean-to-cup machine at home. It was a gift that has lasted a decade and still makes a great cup of coffee; I suspect that they can be picked up for a song on eBay now. Prior to this, I owned a small Gaggia, which was fine but I confess that the mess/faff irritated me quite a bit after a while.
In in terms of the pods, I do think that the Nespresso machines are the best; I have a cheap one next to my desk at work and the coffee is much better than the stewed filter offering provided! I tend to buy the pods from Lidl as they're much cheaper than the genuine ones and I really like the smoothness of the lingo pods.
I use a nespresso, very good machines IMO. I had a gaggia before but rarely used it due to the mess and faff. You can get cheaper pods, you can even get pods you can refill with your own coffee. I wanted a bean to cup originally but less than favourable reviews and very high prices put me off them, the units are also a bit bulky for me.
Just picked up a second nespresso so I can have one in the workshop. Paid ?5 for it on Gumtree and the seller threw in about a dozen pods too. Got to love a bargain! My preferred pod is the fortissio lungo, but started to try alternative suppliers. At the end of the day, 30p for a half decent cup is a fraction of the cost of getting a coffee in a coffee shop.
