  • Seasoned

So the new humidor arrived yesterday and I got straight to work seasoning it. Gave a good splash of distilled water, rubbed the living daylights out of it, stuck painters tape on edges it to ensure it was sealed properly, and used the analogue hygrometer and I am getting a consistent 65% RH. Way to go!

Joking aside, none of that happened.

So the digital hygrometer was calibrated about a month or so ago and I reckon its pretty bang on. The previous humi has 2 69% boveda packs in it and the 69% RH was held consistently.

Last night I put some distilled water in a shallow dish, and a puck with heartfelt beads and left it. Checked it tonight when I came in and its reading 82%. I know to season it boveda recommend 84%. How do I know its seasoned, and how long should I leave it. Bearing in mind I only got it yesterday.

    TIA

If I remember this correctly I seasoned mine for about a week or so.

Give it at least four or five days at a constant humidity.

Seriously, don't try to cut corners when it comes to seasoning. You may be storing hundreds of pounds worth
          of stock in there.
Two 84% Boveda packs will cost you six quid. After a fortnight just swap them out for 69% or 65% packs.
Get yourself two sets of your preferred RH packs and have one set recharging while the other set is in the humidor.

I asked when I bought my humidor about seasoning and was told not to worry and start using it.

The humidity seems pretty consistent so can I assume everything's ok?

Hmmm, appears to be 2 camps. Although majority is saying leave it for two weeks.

depending on the size of your humidor paul I would either put one or two 84% boveda pouches in, leave for 14 days on the 14 day take the 84% pouch or pouches out put in the boveda pouch or pouches you wish to use let the humidor stabalize to the humidity of the pouch or pouches you put in before placing your cigars in
that's the way I done mine hope this helps.
