Do you Shave like your Grampa?

I need to work on my chin technique. The shavette that I bought is a great help for the under nose area, once I settle on a decent blade then I suspect I am set. I'd always shaved before I'd had a shower, so it has taken a little getting used to to do it the other way round, but already I am enjoying the ritual.

Best way to get to that area Rich is to turn the Razor on its side so its vertical with you face and use a gentle X-grain motion. You will be only using a tiny part of the blade, but it will get in there.

Quick update. Been using feather blades and not hugely impressed as I just wasn't getting a close shave. Decided to buy a sample selection- see below, and straight off the bat the derby extra blades are much better. Will be interesting to try them all although I guess I will need to keep notes so I don't forget which I find best. I guess that every razor is going to be different as each one will hold and curve the blade in different ways so for the newbie it really is a question of trial and error.

The only area that I still struggle with is under the chin - the only way to get a smooth shave there is to cut against the grain, something I never had to do with my Gillette proglide.

Shaving this way has been an absolute revelation, my only regret is not trying it sooner.

Still experimenting with different blades at the moment, but other than that it has been a great decision to shave this way.

I switched to "traditional" shaving in 2014 and I'll never go back either. I've got an Edwin Jagger DE89, a generic badger brush and a Proraso soap. Now I'm just buying new blades once in a while. As you said it's good to experiment with different blades before finding the right one. I hope to meet baba the cosmic barber and live the ultimate shaving experience, just have a look at him on youtube and you will understand.
