Btw, as i said, I'm on the fence between both, so I'm trying to decide which side to fall on...
Personally I wouldn't buy the pro or apple product....there's plenty of laptops out there to choose from which will do what I need to do.

But the company I work for have been gradually replacing desktops with surfaces to enable flexible working but only to key areas of the business...most if.my team have one. But i need my laptop for some of the things I'm developing.but when the projects are over my Mac book air will be replaced

I just don't like laptops. I'd rather sit at my desk any day with a proper mouse and keyboard.

Windows PC at work, otherwise tbh I just use my phone (Android)

I have a laptop at the flat, but it comes out once every couple of months at the most now

For me I have a HP all-in-one windows desktop at home, Lenovo laptop and an Android tablet and phone. In the office we are windows based. Many years ago I I worked for Apple when the Mac was first released, if anyone remember the original Mac and Mac SE, fantastic revolutionary PC's. In the late 80's their high prices could be justified as they were streets ahead of the market. But the Microsoft compatibles soon caught up and for the last 15-20 years I can't see how Apple and various software developers can justify the premium on Mac products.

I guess I'm system agnostic, having used all sorts going back all the way to the ZX Spectrum. That said, MLW and I operate a no Apple product in the house policy. Largely because as my august colleagues here say, they're a masterclass in branding only. I have to use an Apple at work, but find myself frustrated by it.

Personally I have an android phone (recently knocked up a notch to a scarily powerful samsung galaxy S8); a Windows 7 laptop from back when Dell let you really pick specs (with a fabulous high gamut display); a samsung galaxy tablet; a Linux laptop (running Ubuntu at the moment) for emergencies and tinkering around; and a Raspberry Pi. Oh and an early seventies Olympia fully manual typewriter - which might be my favourite of the lot.

I definitely feel the need to go back to a desktop, but that hinges on managing to not buy smokes, pipes, whisky, books, and other fun things for long enough to save up for one I won't have to compromise too much on.
