• Nicholas Wing, 1958 - 2016

It was with immense sadness that I attended the memorial for Nic Wing in St Albans Church on Friday, followed by a herf at his home in his honour.

I've never seen a Church so packed.

Nic was an enigmatic, endearing, quintessential gentleman who never failed to gain the friendship of all he met. Simply writing this brings a lump to the throat and finding more words to describe such a brilliant, lovely gentle man is difficult. He will be immensely missed by people on this forum, his friends, his family, and his wife and three children.

His family have asked for any donations to be sent to the hospice where he spent his final weeks resting. More details here: http://nicholas.wing.muchloved.com/

We'll miss you buddy. Please raise a toast and a cigar in honour of Nic - it's what he would've wanted.

I was able to make it to the service too. It was a wonderful and exceptionally fitting tribute for someone I was proud to call a friend.

It was standing room only, full of family and friends who were able to celebrate a life cut savagely short.

Yes a great loss indeed and far too young, a true charismatic gentleman and ambassador of the true unjugemental brotherhood of the leaf.

That's a great picture of Nic

I did try and stop him pinching people's cigars on the inaugural walk that day, but he wouldn't bloody stop

                  A fine day indeed:

I've only just seen this thread. Very nice words Deano. Sorry to all that met and new Nic. I think people's words paint a picture that says a lot about the man.

Although very much a newcomer I enjoyed his online magazine immensely and it gave me so many ideas on how to explore cigars more.

                          RIP

...They're probably drinking whiskey and smoking big cigars...

I miss many threads and havnt been on the forum as much. So this came as a shock as said before I wasn't aware of his illness. Nic gave so much to the forum and very well respected . All the London venues knew and welcomed him. I often pass through Barnet, St Albans etc and wonder if anyone like Nic is around for a smoke. He will be so missed . My late condolences to his family. I will smoke a cigar in this fine Man's honor.
