  • hats on...

With the weather changing, the twin aims of, first, keeping warm with no top-cover (the clue's in the name) when smoking outside and, second, embarrassing my kids (!) led me to buy this - great success on both counts! Made me wonder what idiosyncratic headgear others adopt for these colder, shorter-cigar evenings...? Or am I the only wuss here?

Being "follicly challenged" myself and entering into my first winter of al fresco cigar smoking I have nothing to offer yet however will follow this thread with interest to see the solutions that the more experienced have found!! The ears may still be a challenge though, a nice pair of fluffy ear muffs may finish the ensemble off nicely...........is that a step to far?
I can safely say though that I think you have fulfilled your second aim admirably, hats off to you !

I submit that you are NOT a wuss if you are willing to wear this thing in public (funny how one looses self-awarenss as one grows older). And no doubt your grandchildren will surely disown you when you do.

As far as headgear for cold nights, I prefer the hoodie.

        Nice pick up, grumpybaldy!

Kev - you're right: the fluffy ear muffs are probably a step too far -unless they're in tweed! Better (if you've got the nerve) would be this - protection for the ears and, under the brim, for any cigar up to a petit robusto (see pic). Chris

I'm not a hat person but I bought this baseball cap to shade my slowly enlarging forehead from the sun

My local has heat lamps under cover in the beer garden which is ideal.

Petit corona - at least - safe from the rain under that peak I reckon. What we need's a Stetson...anyone?

The only hat that looks right on me is the Beanie, I wish Flat Cap's, Homburg's and Bowler's did.

As you may have seen in my various photos, I'm partial to top cover.

Mostly I wear a soft felt Stetson (the make, not the shape), as it's warm, shady and waterproof. But for fancier gettup, I have a nice Fedora, which goes well with a navy overcoat. If it gets really (really) cold, I have an Ushanka I traded a camera lens for in Russia. It's too warm for almost all weather but snow, and needs confidence I don't always have!

Cigars are vegetarian, we should all remember that. We're *being* healthy!

Cap man myself , of which I have many and generally wear all year round, cashmere, wool and tweed for winter, linen and cotton for summer
You wanna get ahead, get a hat!
And the man who says hats don't suit me, as tj coro said it all comes with maturity and being less self conscious.

I have lots of baseball caps and woolie hats , but in the colder months I retreat to my man cave and sit by the fire, so no hat there.

                              Good thread

I've about eight baseball caps, two ascot caps, a tweed flat cap, a few woolies (beanie type), faux leather flat cap (with pull down neck and ear muff) an old camo hat with pull down ear bits and a skull cap. I think that's about them all.

                              I like caps
