Not sure where was appropriate to post this, but as I'm clearly having a post-a-thon this afternoon, maybe here. Mods feel free to move or delete (if covered elsewhere especially).

It occurred to me, looking at a picture of a box of Bolivar Gigantes in the humidor thread - is there any suggestion or evidence that Simon Bolivar did smoke cigars? I figure most classy fellows in that timeframe did, but would be interested if there happened to be any direct reference, if any of my august brethren here might know...

Simon Bolivar might you care to take the stage here! Experience says you know his profile rather well, and the history of this marque...

I think people were too busy writing about him being a sneeky manipulative coward to worry about his smoking habits.

Although they did take time to comment on his womanising.

Hi Chaps, OK, taking up the challenge, I searched the internet but couldn't find a pic or direct reference to Simon Bolivar smoking cigars. However did find this interesting account of his battles & just how difficult it was to drive out the Spanish form an area the size of Europe. http://www.militaryheritage.com/bolivar.htm
In conclusion, it's almost impossible to believe he didn't smoke cigars, as it was so common at the time, particularly amongst the aristocracy & the military. I also believe he achieved far more than el Che & far more worthy of the title of revolutionary & freedom fighter of the America's.

Speaking of Mr Bolivar, has anyone here read The General in His Labyrinth?

Sounds like a good read, and I'm sure this book is disproportionately more popular amongst cigar smokers...
