I might have discovered this fine, relaxed site yesterday rather than a year ago.
The increased number of members might be a surprise if you see that 40 or 60 new posts have been added since the last visit, but I believe that surprise comes from the fact that Deano only changed the first page very recently to include a total new posts number.
For me, people come back if they are interested in all things cigar-related, so if the number of enthusiasts increases, that's a fine thing by me.
I stay because nobody flames, or attacks, anybody else. There is no nastiness.
I come on because I'm moderately knowledgeable about cigars. I adore the cigars I smoke and I want to learn more about other sticks. I enjoy the posts of the people I consider to be my betters - the cigar knowledge boys, stockmen and collectors - as well as the first steps of beginners.
It's a very good mix, in my opinion.
And, above all, it makes me reflect more on different cigars - and I know I will get round to sampling them.
It's civilised here.
Far more than any other cigar or music oriented forum that I've written on.
Forums can become boxing rings - but not here.
Increased membership means that the possibility of herfing regionally is increased. People are currently trying to get together in Kent, South Wales and Scotland. That's all good.
I've gained so much in knowledge and brotherly togetherness and banter on the screen and in the flesh over the last year. I've made some friends in the flesh, too. Long may this continue.
We all come here for different angles, and for me that extra angle is an interest in music.
I can increase my passion about making music with several people on this site. ANY musician who plays or performs well, or who is interested in music but doesn't necessarily play or sing, AND who contributes posts on here with enthusiasm about the joy of cigar smoking is a double gain for me.
I've herfed collectively on the cigar walk herf in London, and one-to-one with four other site members. It has been brilliant.
I wouldn't have been able to do this a year ago, and this site helps me to enjoy these connections AND to be a more self-assured and proud public cigar chomper.
So welcome to all recently joined BOTL.
Enjoy this site for the good times to be gained from it. On-screen, or otherwise.
PS Parcelforce have just delivered me 50 Ramon Allones Small Club Coronas to the door from Don Gabriel.
I am a true pig in shit today.
And now I have some cigar man's hard labour to do...
