Most game is presented driven here, so has some height and distance. So, most shoot 12 gauge. 20 gauge is pretty common too. I've shot walked up red grouse, snipe and woodcock with a 12 too.... Frankly they are so rapidly away that the lead in the air is helpful. I have a .410 that i shoot pigeon and vermin (mostly grey squirrels)with... Its just easier to carry with a cigar on the go!

I have shot with all sorts, never been on a driven day (funds won't allow that for a long time) but I do the odd day of rough shooting.
I still love using a 410 single barrel shotgun for pheasant and other game, it adds a real challenge!

Blimey....bang goes my sense of direction.... I traveled a lot.... And was mostly concussed (rugby) / benefitting from too much Stross ( a canadian beer, mispelt i think....). Should have checked a map! Was all over the place as you can probably tell! Definitely did the edmonto- jasper road then on to banff...

I love a 410. I have a London stamped, but unquestionably Birmingham made Army & Navy SBS. It was bought for my kids, but as they are so young I couldnt resist having the stock adjusted for me!!! It's a non-ejector so ideal for a 'walk around in the woods' gun.
Rough shooting is absolutely my favourite as it goes... just being out with friends (or solo) for an informal ramble around is the bes

rabbits at close range, don't think I'd use it though to shoot pheasants not unless they were at a range the 410 would kill them clean.

I have killed pheasant outright just short of the distances I'd expect from a 12g. The 410 is much under-rated especially now there is such a variety of loads available.

I used to have a folding double barrelled .410 with external hammers. It belonged to Croydon's ratter before they pensioned him off. My ex-father in law snapped it up and gave it to me.
