  • Do we have any sailors?

Pretty much as per the thread title. Do we have any yachties around these parts? Sailing's good enough as it is, but it's also a great opportunity for a good cigar in my mind - drop the anchor and light up.

As a pleasant surprise, the last guy I crewed for did exactly this. Anchor went down, the rum came out and up he lit. Wasn't expecting it, so grabbed a couple of packs of Cohiba Exquisitos when we moored in La Coruna to see us through a few days (he had quite a stash of Dominicans too, hence the number of Exquisitos in my humi now...)

A couple of ideas rolling around in my head depending on the response...

I toyed with the idea a few years back, nearly bought a boat, but nothing came of it.

I'm not a sailor but I can understand the enjoyment one can attain from sailing on calm waters for pleasure, sea fishing or bouncing about on the rough stuff.
    If..

Hope they dont include a 'Barrel'
Love the look of the sea, but I dont like deep water! Scares the shit out of me if I cant touch the bottom with my head above the water, fear of drowning? or jaws!

I used to sail Toppers when I was in school but I've not done any sailing since then. Loved it at the time but have gotten lazy now.

              or

              Makes (almost) no difference.

We'll forget about those odd RFA chaps - "Make your mind up, purleese!"

I had the joy of being used as an example of how a light jackstay personnel transfer works during sea training... Can't remember which RFA ship I went over to, it was one of the Rovers (Black Rover, I think).

I've spent many an hour on a Towsend Torensen! (blast from the past) or P&O ferry crossing the English channel to France for holidays.

                        Does that count...!?! lol

It's borderline Habs, I have to say. But borderline's pretty close.

We can sort this out though...

Have you ever had to do this on a ferry crossing? If yes, you're in.

LOL!!! No never had to do that...

I know Townsend Torensen were pretty sketchy but they did manage to dock (most of the time!!!) before they let people off.

Didn't catch you on the newbie greets Pugwash so this will have to suffice.

I did a bit of off shore sailing after years in dingys but hated the fact that nothing happened for long periods and I got sea sick so knocked that on the head.

I hate the fact that now days if I want to hire a dingy for the day I have to take my 11 year old daughter along as she has certificates and I have none and they won't hire a boat to me!!!
