  • Thumbs up.... csi

Found myself chuckling away at my own thoughts while browsing the forum.... We BOTL's have go to keep our thumbs on the straight and narrow, given how often they feature in pictues on the net! I found myself giggling at the thought of a Morse, Holmes, or even Clouseau unpicking a crime based up a detailed knowledge of online published cigar smokers thumbs.......!

i have a feeling this is a thought i should have kept to myself ...... ROFL!

Holmes was seen to discuss tobacco as a source of detection in the great story of the Baskervilles.

Using what was an already used forensic theory known as Locards principle of exchange where everything we come into contact with leaves a trace. One of the great pioneers of forensic medicine.

In Scotland and NI you need 16 points of comparison between a crime scene mark and a suspects fingerprint....In England there is no required number of points only confirmation it matches

I think your thumb will be fine

There was a slightly high profile case regarding fingerprints some years ago. Maybe recommendations came out of that ...not my area of expertise

ACE-V. It's the method of latent identification. All police officers have their prints taken to eliminate from an incident should there be accidental or operational cause to leave any residue at an incident scene. I have spoken to officers connected to that case in question and there is much conjecture - which id only discuss face to face [emoji601]. We used a number of intelligence systems in conjunction with FE such as fingerprints and I have had one case, since moving over to the dark side of the bar, with ear prints. Teeth ears and feet are all unique identification elements. Even using acid to burn finger tips leaves its own scar pattern.

I'd heard of ear prints, but never heard it used in anger. my original post was in jest, but this is fascinating.

however I am still sniggering at the idea of a line up of thumbs through a curtain as a mini herf went on behind it..... We'd spot the wrongun by his choice of a rogueish stick.....! What would a super villain smoke i wonder......!??! Some form of acrid smelling cheroot perhaps.....

The case in question surrounded a Housebreaking (Burglary) where the defendant was placing his ear at the window to ascertain whether anyone was at home, disturbed earth at the foot of the wall at the window suggested that there could be a lift. Anytime I hear of an ID parade I always think of...

                        'You the' forums keyboard sceptic?

No, I am qualified and secure in myself and my profession. I would offer apologies, I have clearly made the mistake of engaging in discourse that has attracted your suspicions whilst sadly understandable; is regrettable. Offering opinion or engaging in conversation online has its negative aspects, one of which you have embodied as I did with jocular suspicions around the recently mooted box of montecristos. For my part I know that I was genuinely suspicious however overtly infantile in my 'magic beans' comment. From your retort above I am not so sure you have your humour to the fore?

I wish you peace and good cigars sir.
