You're completely right, but it would be very difficult and IMO undemocratic for anyone to vote against the outcome a referendum, they just wouldn't have a mandate to do so. There has however been a Labour MP who has said (in his words) that they should 'stop this madness'

The only ones who could reasonably do it are Scottish and Northern Ireland MPs, and possibly London and other English MPs whose constituency voted remain

Yea I was thinking the same...that they wouldn't vote against it as it makes the referendum quite pointless.

but just its still not 100% we are out just yet.

you just don't know maybe the leave head campaigners never thought they would have won and may have realised what a mammoth task there is to try an maintain what difficult task there is to ensure UK economy is not massively de-stabled and with a EU deal what will really change??

If they still have freedom of movement...then why leave?

If Scotland want to be in the EU. Will there be boarders if they go independent...if there isnt...how has anything changed regarding immigration?

We will have to pay a large membership fee to have some sort of deal...will it be drastically different to what we are paying at the moment.

I'm sure they have some sort of clue...but I for one would love to know the fine details of the plans to leave as surely the government would have had a plan incase the vote did go toward leave.

      • Labour and Conservative wont even be the same entities by then.... Vote for local politicians that are most likely to represent what you want and look after your area the best.... Dont vote for an entire party based on some sense of betrayal.

        • It would be dangerous undemocratic and possibly unconstitutional territory to vote against the electorate.

At the moment nobody knows what we will or wont be offered. EU will bluster, but they are taking a big hit too and risk taking an even bigger hit if they dont get it right.

If we have balls and put forward a good face we have every chance to come out of this strong.

As a people we need to be positive and involved in the process or some spineless nitwit MP will probably sell us back in except in name as you suggest and that would be a pretty pointless outcome.

In theory though we are currently stuck looking backwards. The EU is not the only market, the point of getting out was to foster new relationships with emerging markets and we need to start that ASAP.

Reduce our reliance on EU trade, Turkey would be a good start, they have wanted a part of EU pie for ages and arent getting it. Increase our trade with a sweeter deal with them.

          • It's a positive view to think but really what has Turkey got to offer? The consumers there probably can't afford, let alone want, a lot of the goods we export.
My dad is an engineer for JLR and already within two days the engine plant in the UK is under "talks" within the company management about what to do in terms of whether to move the plant to Europe due to the extra duties the EU will put on anything coming in to the EU. That's a lot of jobs at risk and that's just at one plant. Ford have said the exact same and these type of companies don't care about local jobs if it can be made cheaper just as well in a different country; and this is just one sector we're taking about.

              A protest vote, eh?

I wonder where else in the world that would be happening

              That was, unexpected!
Aren't there reasons why the EU and the member states aren't dealing with Turkey as much as they (or the rest of the Balkans) "should" be for such a large, geographically convenient nation?

              • Turkey are an emerging market in an industrialised country, a large GDP nation that has droping national debt. They offer a big potential.

Ford have been losing market share in europe for some time now and I would suggest they should be open to acces in mew markets from the UK where they sell comparatively much more than they do in the EU.

JLR is a bad fit for Turkey perhaps, but they are just one of many nations.

Look at the top 8 car buying nation's in the world, only the UK and Germany are on the list.

Russia, India, Brazil, Japan, USA and China are the places buying cars. Lets push deeper into these markets.

But hey, this is what our business ministers should be discussing with company leaders.

It's often been quoted that the EU is the "Christian Mission" as they are yet to include a Muslim nation and I suspect that its somewhat true.

The EU regularly claim a couple reasons, a historic fight with the Armenians which the Turks were probably largely at fault for and wont apologise and the diparity between Turks and Turkish Curds are two of the most common.

                  • Yeah indeed, the Asian markets are good ones to be in. Although we are already selling a lot to them, I suppose we'll just have to see where all this goes.

                      • Largely due to the continuing scaremongering I would suggest. People need to keep their heads up during the enevitable turbulence.

Government appears to have started calming investors and hopefuly should continue to do so. It's time for us to crack on with strengthening our place in the world markets.

you think we got out of the EU to foster new relations with the ret of the world? sorry i do not buy that for one minute lets be honest a vast majority voted to get out of the EU because of immergration and most would not have been thinking about trade deals with the rest of teh world, and lets be clear no one has a fucking clue whats going on not heard from gove or boris or any one from leave, in the mean time pound is down, stocks beeing suspended and all the while there is dealy markets and investors will be keeping there money out the the uk so untill some one comes up with a plan as far as i can tell this is only heading one way
i also think Camron stepped down as he knew it is pretty fucked and did not want to be around, stupid prick shoud never have held the referendum in the first place
