This is a question for anyone that uses these to get media onto their telly -
What's your set up?
I'm using a fire stick at the moment, and to be frank, it's shit, so I'm looking for something else.
Fire TV has just gone up from 65 to 80, so I don't want that on principle.
What have you got, what have you tried, what did you like, what don't you like??

Chrome cast ....install show box onto your android phone or tablet ...then install app all connect.

That's it tons of films shows etc. Beamed to your TV

I love kodi/xbmc...I've been using it for years and it's never let me down.
groundhog it really depends on what you want..out of your media centre...ie do you like downloading? Or do you like to stream.

Some of the streams on kodi are crap. Sombody mentioned to me that there had been recent issues with kodi on fire stick

Best add on to stream movies and TV shows the best two are genesis and exudos...for sports that's a different story...you have decent streams and 8 / 10 times you won't have a problem... But when there is a problem the streams can be annoying with its constant buffering etc.

At the moment, I use a wdtv box to play stuff from my NAS and I use the firestick for streaming.
But it's cack.
I need something that's wife and child friendly, which is another reason why a pi or media pc is out.
Ideally I'd like something that can replace the wdtv and firestick and do both jobs. If I can use it for Netflix and Amazon Prime, all the better (cos it means I won't have to get the PS going)...

Exodus replaced Genesis. Geneses is no longer supported by the people who make it, so it will just get worse and worse.

The problem with the Android boxes and derivatives is that almost all of them dont have hardware accelerated video decoding, so it becomes a job for the CPU directly.... And lots of them are on fairly puny older CPU's and not much RAM.

All Pi's are hardware accelerated, the newer Pi's have CPU's multiple times faster and more RAM than the older ones.

Once a Pi is set up and going its no less easy to use than anything else and is almost as small as a Fire Stick. Still a decent X86 based PC with a few Gig of RAM will provide an overall smoother experience in my experience. But at the expence of a bigger footprint.

I did read something about that...but wasn't sure what was going on

O OK...if you want stuff like Amazon prime Netflix...I would go either for a Amazon fire box or a decent android TV box...as you have the best of both worlds...apps for Netflix etc but can have kodi to manage most of your local content

You said you got a fire stick what's your issue with it?
