i got got the frother. Used to use it for cappuchinos but the frother doesn't warm it hot enough for my liking. Like a hot coffee, hence warming my own milk

I was actually looking at a machine that has a milk warmer container as part of it. Are they all poor Si?

I bought the one with a detached heater/frother and never bother with it now. Unless you want a cappuccino the microwave makes milk way hotter.

Does anyone use the Espresso machines such as this:

or better still, if you have or have had both, pro's and con's comparison please.

Also, could I have some recommendations for burr coffee grinders please.

              Thank you.

Haven' used that model but would avoid as most at that level are junk. If your seriously wanting entry level espresso then get something like a gaggia classic and a baratza or Graef grinder

The Sage range are supposedly very good. My mate has the bean to cup and sold fairly high end espresso and burr grinder after he got it.

Johnny, there's quite a few gaggia machines on eBay that can be had pretty cheap.

IMO even the lowest level espresso machine paired with a burr grinder and freshly ground beans will make better coffee than a Nespresso.

IMHO its all about how much you want to 'do'.

invariably the best coffee you can get is quality beans, freshly ground put through a quality machine at the right temp and pressure.

IMHO, if you like a decent cup, easily made, then nespresso is by far the best capsule brand out there. You can, as it happens, grind and fill your own capsules, but then you run into the foot pound pressure discussion. Some of the original nespresso machines were far more powerful than the present day bunch... which are cheaper and smaller.... and I don't believe produce quite as nice coffee... but that said I have one at home, and I tuck one away in my office at work... simple easy and delivers better coffee that any of the big chain high street coffee companies, with out the bank loan per cup.

In a perfect world I would have an office overlooking Piazza Sant' Eustachio in Rome... where the legendary Sant Eustachio il Caffee is based... and I would never bother making my own again!!! Until then....

                            Advice for first coffee machine.

I like the idea of being able to fill pods with coffee of choice but once you've going to the effort of grinding and filling pods then the 'conveniene' aspect of Nespresso is removed and may as well use a regular machine.

I've used several Nespresso machines and always found the coffee produced by them lacking in body and any real distinctive flavour- I believe there's 5grams of coffee in a pod compared to typically 11-18grams that a portafilter basket will take, which may have something to do with it.
I understand the convenience aspect but the price per cup is ridiculously high compared to other methods/sources.

                            Edit:

I'm taking this at face value but a quick comparison of price per kilo shows an astonishing difference! (From 2014 and take into account the commercial aspect of the blog)

The gaffer has only two stipulations.
Size, and match the kitchen. The bigger machines are not winning the boss over.
