  • Cigar Box Curiosity

    Hi

I want to first apologise for this not strictly cigar related post and hope I am not interloping on your fine forum.

I recently bought an ornate shell box from a local bric-a-brac store which is seemingly fashioned from an old cigar box. The box looks pretty old and bears the mark 'hecho en cuba' which I gather means made in Cuba. There are also feint marks underneath this which seem to read something like 'Coldrado'. There is another inscription beneath this one that is almost entirely illegible. Please see attached photos.

I was wondering if anyone on this forum could shed any light on the marks and hazard a guess as to when the box was made?

Apologies for the photo quality as I have a vintage phone as well as box.

    Regards

An interesting curiosity Craig. Hencho en Cuba indeed means made in Cuba. Colorado refers to the colour of the wrapper, a reddish brown. The age of the box is pre '85, as they started putting dates & codes on the base of the box. And can be closer determined if you can match the type set to this page of our standard Cuban Cigar reference.

There's quite a bit of work goes into some of these. I remember my grandmother having a go at a few but she rectum.

I don't like to speak ill of her since she passed, but she was a little picky...

So colonoscopy, the question that springs to mind is are you having it or doing one? If your doing it no problem, you have probably done hundreds & it not exactly brain surgery after all! If you're having one then here's a cheery thought. We used to give all such patients an soapy enema before the procedure. This was basically a gallon of soapy warm water that was introduced & after a pause allowed to return. Made sure you were squeaky clean but was reportedly rather uncomfortable. These days a small microlax does the job. There's progress for you. PS Hope the Doc turns up!

Believe me the pre-clearout is worse than the procedure

The laxative i had..... Sure it was called someting with prep at the end, was great. Felt brilliant the next day.

I should get some more and do it every 6 months or so.

Mine was Klean-prep. It was anything but Klean. Read half a novel on the toilet yesterday.

Reckon the box is 1974-78. I thought it was older so I faecal put it on Ebay!

The colonoscopy was a sucess so I might celebrate with a cigar. Can anyone point me towards a good, reasonably priced Cuban. I smoked B&H for 25 years but switched to vaping last year (a crafty cigar won't hurt). I can recommend Yaeliq for anyone interested in tobacco/cigar juice. Or is that blasphemy on here?

Thanks for all the advice and toilet humour.

No blasphemy in recommending a juice mate The recommend me a cigar script could end up a long discussion, depending on budget, taste (if you've had a cigar before) time available and on, and on.

However, I'll stick my neck out and say go to somewhere like Asda and ask for a Punch cigar. They'll be in a dark green tube, about four inches long, and thicker than the last tube you saw That should see you right and you can make your mind up if you want to explore more after that.

I'll pop a picture up in a bit, unless someone beats me to it.
