As its getting a bit too cold to be outside for a smoke these days, I thought I would do myself a favour and get an air purifier for the back room where I sometimes hide away with the iPad and a rum. With the window and door open it didn't really smell too bad but I reckoned an air cleaner would put me in the good books with the wife, wrong !!!!
Purchased a Blueair 203 with smokestop, checked it out and reviews were really encouraging, got a decent deal but still wasn't cheap. It arrived a couple of days later and it's as simple as plug it in and away it goes.
So settled down to watch FA Cup with a nice coffee and a beautiful custom roll from a friend, the machine was in the corner doing its thing. After about an hour or so the Mrs came through to say the house was absolutely stinking of stale cigar smell, as you can imagine I was incredulous but went with her to investigate. To my dismay she was absolutely right, the rest of the house actually did smell pretty bad, never before had she even mentioned a cigar smell with just the door and window open.
Spoke to the company today to ask if I was doing anything wrong but seemed I'd followed the instructions to the letter and they couldn't understand what was going on. They suggested situating the machine in a different place and possibly turning it down a notch. Well I got home from work early today to test it out and if anything it was worse than last night, so needless to say it's back to the open door and window mullarkey :-(
All I can think is the smoke that hasn't been filtered through the machine is being forced throughout the house somehow by, for want of a better description the air cleaner's exhaust system. Back to the drawing board.
