Levis aren't cheap but they're pretty much bomb proof and wash well.

I tend to keep an eye out for sales and pick my jeans up then, you can easily save ?30 a pair.

I've worn Levi 501's since the early 70's and still wear them today, I find their fit still works for me. The only difference is when I first bought them they stood up on their own and I remember sitting in the bath with them on in order to get that shrunk to fit look. today they come in a range of colours and finishes. Look out for sales where you can pick them up for ?35 - ?40

Unbranded are good, check out gustin/ Edwin/ nudie and the higher end Levi's. I'm in London in 5 weeks and so tempted to get a pair of lot 1s (savile row bespoke Levi's) ?500 though which is sooooo expensive but I want them. Would you go Raw or washed?

I would go Raw personally. I will try some Unbranded.

What cut do people prefe? I have always liked the Levi 501 and then the 511.

I have noticed thay Next and Top Man are now advertising Selvedge Jeans so perhaps it's about to go highstreet mainstream?

I have been told about Gustin before and GAP though I have been warned that there are effectively two lots of GAP jeans and the ones seen in most stores are much cheaper garnents.

508 for me, calves and thighs don't work with 501s.

You're a braver man than I if you ever wear all three pieces at the same time... A very, erm, bold look away from the shooting field.

There's a wonderful thread on 'Ask Andy About Clothes' where members post what they're wearing each day. There are some very stylish gentlemen on there (even if most are from America), although a couple of combinations certainly raise some eyebrows. Great place to get some ideas, and just generally admire some wonderful tailoring (admittedly amongst some not so wonderful tailoring...)

I accidentally found that website last night. There's some crazy argument/disagreements on there. They talk about plain black Oxfords and Derby's as though they are apples and oranges.

And Im sure to some people in the know they really are..

Oh and I do wear it as a three piece, normally with a white shirt, red braces, deep pink bow tie and pocket square and Oxblood Oxfords.

Though all three pieces do a lot of double duty.

VTG... Yes, there are some very in-depth 'discussions' on AAAC - I do try to avoid them though. Haha. I have to admit I do tend to just look at the pictures.

Well, you're certainly not doing things by halves. I picked up a three piece tweed suit when a local shop was closing down (owners retiring). RRP was something like ?400, but I got it for ?75. A tenner to get a couple of bits altered and I think I got a bargain. I could never bring myself to wear that much tweed in one go though - a bit of an assault on the eyes, especially with the pattern of that tweed. So all three pieces do duty on their own - I love tweed, it's just so versatile.

I thought you were doing a psychological profile.

I bet you could tell a lot about a man by his wardrobe....... Although in no way do clothes make a man.

I'm not all that clued up with fashion though I'm trying to learn, but to me it looks ok, to others it would perhaps look uncouth.

I don't think I'm in danger of becoming a style icon any time soon.

Edit: just found a picture where I have it on, it's not overly overt in its pattern.

Have any of you used a stylist service such as Thread or The Chapar?

I signed up to thread 5 months ago and I think the fact that I haven't bought a single thing from them says it all.

I've just signed up to The Chapar to see if they can surprise me.
