What a day soaked right through, think it will take a couple of weeks for my coat to dry out properly
apart from the wet weather a good laugh was had by all.
Shoot captain came round to the beaters trailer with some sloe gin seeing how wet we all looked which went down well
looked like a sauna in the trailer with all that steam coming off us.
Usual lunch at midday burgers or bacon rolls followed by genoa or carrot cake hot soup or tea and coffee most of the guns torched monticristo 4s today.
Final bag of the day was very impressive 165 pheasants 2 woodcock guns looked very pleased with themselves
and thanked all the beaters for a good job we did driving the birds over.
Wolfie will post a photo I hope of the game cart at the end of the day.

And finished of the cakes that were left at lunchtime genoa and carrot cake.

We did have a fantastic day shooting though - the weather wasn't even (too) bad. A bit of mist, drizzle and a stiff breeze, but no heavy rain - for which I suspect the locals were even more thankful for than I.
Definitely some of the best birds I've had the pleasure of shooting, and the third drive was, undoubtedly, the highlight of my season so far! Even more so when the keeper complimented me on the 'shot of the season'. [emoji4] A very high curler, whipped along by the wind. One of those that will stay in the memory for a very long time.
Best of all though, whilst I only knew a couple of the other guns (and one only only by way of a phone call two years ago), it was a wonderful team to shoot with and we all convened at the local with the beaters and pickers-up before departing.

Very true simon days like that always stay cherrished, 2 years ago beaters day last drive of the day this partridge got up
and was flying so fast with the wind behind it about 45 ..50 yards in front nobody but the keeper saw it so when he shouted partridge
my son being in front of the other guns and all eyes on him swang round missed with the first got it with the second and we all cheered
one hell of a shot bet he coulden.t do that again that partridge folded dead before it hit the ground the wind carried it some distance
one of the picker up sent his cocker off to try and find it after 10 minutes of looking both dog and handler came back with the partridge
That day is still mentioned to this day when any partridges are shot and cherished it still remains with my son and me
don't know who felt more proud my son shooting it or me watching my son having such a cracking shot.
