If every smoker in Britain switched to vaping, around 75,000 lives a year could be saved, they estimate. The experts called for e-cigarettes to be prescribed on the NHS once regulated.
Clearly the people in the money seat have a vested interest in the massive proffit potential of e-cigs...... Funny how e-cigs have been available since around 2003-5 and they only flood the market once the beneficial anti smoking culture has been nurtured to an advantageous degree.
I bet a lot of investment at the top end has swung quickly from tobacco companies to the e-cig croud.
The kind of monies involved probably draws in people with a lot of economical and governmental clout too.
But hey, how long untill people realise that inhaling antifreeze isnt great for you in the long term.

Realy don't see why the NHS should fund these e cigarettes, if the smokers can afford to spend roughly ?8.00 to ?9.00 on a packet
why can't they buy them themselves.
Hospitals up and down the country are already struggling money wise.

As a point of principle I agree with you, but looking at it pragmatically would spending the money on eCigarettes now save money in the long term by encouraging people to get off the fags and therefore less burden treat patients later?
I know there is some debate about the health benefits of eCigs and I haven't the slightest idea how this could the managed as there are a lit of factors to consider, but I can see (but not necessarily agree with) the logic
E-Cig flavours have a base of either Propylene Glycol or Vegetable Glycerine.... Both are chemicals that descend from the Antifreeze industry.
Given that most liquids hail from China and China is one of the worlds largest producers of Antifreeze I suspect that the largest proportion of e-liquids are a cheap byproduct of the Chinese Antifreeze industry.
I also wonder how many of the european resellers of e-liquid spend much time in the Chinese factories?
From what I can tell, education and understanding isnt promoted too much in e-cig circles..... Given that most smokers and sales people I have spoken too think that you exhale pure water vapour......
Also a quick google search of "Kids smoke e-cigs" gives loads of links that support the theory too. So I guess its a matter of who you believe and how statiatics were created and even the agenda of the person sputing the statistics.

My eyes tell me that theres LOADS of kids with e-cigs. Who made the statistics?
Yes, there is always going to be anecdotal evidence to contradict something, but I thought it encouraging to hear about it. I can't answer/remember the body that did the report/study, but it sounded genuine.
I back the idea that Ecigs are less harmful than smoking, that doesn't make them safe as such but I can't see why they should be banned anywhere outside (ref new proposals to ban smoking outside of pubs ect) but I don't think the NHS should pay for them. They are not a treatment & there is no programme to actually cut down & them stop; some may do so, others I imagine could be on E cigs for life. Patches & Nicotine replacement therapy (which I prescribe at work) are aimed at smoking cessation, ecigs aren't. We cover the crew onboard by giving them patches ect & they have to pay for them when ashore so over 12wks thy have paid for 6. If they relapse, they will have financial consequences. Just paying everything on the NHS means no one would have to actually give up. Medicine for adults has to be unpleasant & expensive to work; children just need it to be sweet to stop giving them the sugar free crap!
