I only smoke outside due to my family not liking it so for me this isn't great news. I can maybe understand beaches but as long as it doesn't spread to banning EVERYWHERE outside then we should be okay, he says...

When is all going to stop targeting the smokers.
Smoking breaks are to be a thing of the past for workers at Gedling Borough Council after local politicians agreed to enforce a ban.
Staff will be told they aren't allowed to have a break for a crafty cigarette from the start of next year and must also cover their council uniform when lighting up

Smoking breaks will be stubbed out for more than 1,000 employees after a council announced a blanket ban on lighting up in work hours.
Nottinghamshire County Council will discipline workers who are caught smoking at any time during their paid working hours and the rules will apply to any authority-owned buildings, land or vehicles.
A policy document circulated to staff yesterday, and seen by the Post, said staff had "no right to smoke" and the council has a "key role" in promoting better health in Notts.
The ban, which also prohibits the use of e-cigarettes, has been welcomed by health experts but union chiefs say it is a "step too far".

Although I don't think the Councils should be bringing employee's health into it as its none of their business, I do agree that people shouldn't be allowed a paid cigarette break, why should smokers be given more breaks than me but get paid the same?

Even if we did have coffee breaks and taking into account any other time not doing proper work, everyone would be entitled to those, whereas the fact still remains that a smoker is given an extra say 20 minutes break a day (assuming 10 minutes for one in the morning and another 10 in the afternoon) on top of anything a non-smoker would get
There are of course other ways to have handled it and its not that I am particularly outraged about it or would bother to bring in the same where I work, but as a point of principle I agree with what the council are doing and don't see it as an attack on smokers and don't really see what anyone would have to complain about
