  • Any cyclists on the forum?

Just wondering if anyone on the forum gets out on their bike? I commute to and from work (9 miles each way) unless it's too icey and I'm a member of a cycling club getting out for a ride most weekends.
A typical MAMIL, I don't enjoy riding in the crappier weather / colder months but it's nice getting out and about in the Summer (cycling home when it's blowing a hooley on the 1st June isn't classed as Summer riding).

    Cheers

    Rob

Motorcycle Rob pedalling is just too much like exercise I'm afraid.
It's not the arrow, it's the Indian !

I cycle to work once a week and enjoyed some great cycling and camping holidays when i was a single man. I'm no bradley wiggins but i enjoy it!

I did a cycling touring holiday when I was 17. Totally unprepared in all regards but enjoyed it.

I've done a bit over recent years and a few rides; London to Canterbury, London to Brighton (twice), the first 'Ride London' 100 miler and have a charity ride from Southend to London coming up in July. I also do 3/4 Spin classes per week up the gym just to keep my hand in. I really enjoy it and think it's a terrific way to keep your general fitness up without impacting on your body in any negative way like running does.

They sound like some nice rides, some fantastic countryside down that way. I tried to get on this years' Ride London but was unsuccessful. :/
I've never been a good runner but do enjoy cycling (when the weather is good), it helps keep me moderately fit and the weight off a bit too. Riding abroad is even better, the motorists don't try to kill you and actually sit behind you on the road patiently, I've had a fair few close shaves this past year.

A group of us went on a cycling weekend to Le Touquet a while ago which was really enjoyable and where, as you've pointed out, we enjoyed an appreciative attitude towards cyclists on the road, as opposed to riding here when sometimes things can get a bit hairy.

I try to keep on the cycle paths as much as possible in this country. Cycling abroad is a great way to see a country and get off the beaten track . The toughest days riding, and the best I've ever done is from Florence to Sienna. A very hilly fifty odd miles but a lovely meal and bottle of Chianti at the end of it. it's hard to get a bad meal in Italy! I cycled and camped from Prague to Vienna about ten years ago and that was a great experience. France and Holland are great for cycle touring too.

Prague to Vienna sounds like quite an adventure! I've never done any off-roading abroad but done a bit on the road. Had a week in the Sierra de Tejeda mountains back in March and off to do some mountains next month in France, off to watch the last few stages of le Tour.
If I had the time I'd love to bike across America or maybe cycle the Iron Curtain trail : http://www.ironcurtaintrail.eu/en/

That looks interesting, bookmarked! Saw some iron curtain bunkers and stuff between czech republuc and austria, so i guess i've cycled across that route. I think that whole route would take me months, especially if hauling my camping gear!

Certainly a long trek, especially when carrying camping gear.

Yeah I ride road and mountain bikes all year round, and have a hybrid for trips out with the missus and in place of the car whenever I can. Built a trials bike a couple of years ago, bought a frame and built it up with some bits from the cellar. Good fun and great for improving bike handling skills, especially in the old quarries round our way.
