This is the silver lining in these horrible tragedies - we learn ways to stop them from happening again.

A very sad truth at times, unfortunately. Since some companies have already come out to say they won't support this procedure change, let's at least hope it will be enough prevent any further tragedies of this sort.

Not saying depression was the cause, however a serious episode may have contributed to this... Very sad indeed.

So these companies that won't support these procedures are happy to gamble that such a thing won't happen again.

A tragic, tragic incident. A school full of children and a town of families will never be the same.


Fortunately extremely rare (if not unheard of) to have such a situation.

My thoughts go out to all those that lost loved ones.

The problem is these procedures don't/can't/wouldn't have changed when a pilot choses to crash a plane, cabin crew comes in pilot is flicking switches (cabin crew don't know what they do) engines stop and pilot puts full nose down on the controls. The other pilot wouldn't have a chance to do anything even if he could get through the door. It's a knee jerk reaction so that they can be seen do be doing something which is not how safety should be managed.

The two person rule was actually designed so that when the pilot returned the CC could check who was at the door.

You have a point but at least the cabin crew member could open the door if any suspicion of foul play came obvious. Lowers the risk at least.

If the captin or co-pilot have decided they want to commit mass-murder you are already in a very bad place regardless of systems.

What about a coach driver who just steers of a mountain road etc ...mechanical systems can only do so much.

It's a very sad affair for the families and the family of the pilot , we never know exactly what goes on in people's minds, the media will release all sorts of theories and answers . It's a terrible tradegy to say the least and imo the families should be left to mourn in peace and deal with their loses

I feel deeply sorry for the passengers. Why he had to do it that way, and not another way with just himself, I don't know... My heart goes out to the crew & passengers.
