1. Tell you what guys flying these days it's got me worried after reading this on the bbc news.
   
   The co-pilot of a Germanwings jet that went down in the Alps appears to have crashed the plane deliberately, a French prosecutor says
2. The co-pilot is identified as Andreas Lubitz, a 28-year-old German citizen
3. Analysis of the flight recorder shows the pilot had left the cockpit and was calling on the co-pilot to let him back in
4. All 150 people on board flight 4U 9525 were killed when the Airbus A320 smashed into a mountainside

Yeah I agree, however in a case like that it is 100% out of your hands and premature and thats the real shame!

It doesn't worry me at all, the chance of it happening is very rare, more likely to be killed in a car accident and I still drive daily.

While that is statistically true, I believe what scares most people is the lack of control you have when you're on a plane. In a car, the way you drive contributes significantly to increase your chances of an accident-free trip, however once you're on a plane, there's little or nothing you can usually do to increase said percentage.

Tell that to the host of people that have been recently killed by lorries/bin waggons careering into pedestrian areas. Life is dangerous and people die all the time..... we just get it pushed in our face more these days.

My example was car driving vs. plane traveling, which was the comparison made by Krist, not people vs. lorries. Death is a certainty in life, but there are certainly more and less tragic ways to go IMO. Plus, and while I'm not disagreeing with you, I do understand people's fears of helplessness in regards to plane traveling, although I'm not usually bothered by them, even though I travel a lot due to work.

The fact the co-pilot was able to lock the cockpit from the inside is interesting. I presume this is done so that in the case of a hijacking there's no possibility of the cabin crew being forced to open it.

However in this instance it prevented the Captain being able to prevent the co-pilot doing what he did.

Should there be rules to ensure there are always two people in the cockpit? Or could they bring in on-ground override?

Two people in the cockpit at all times will have to become mandatory.
The co-pilot in the cabin could over-ride the door mechanism after the pilot entered the code to get through the door. He would have had 30 seconds to do this.
The override needs to be 2 buttons, pushed simultaneously, too far apart to be reached by one person.

Is that true, so in the case of an actual hijack 2 people need to do it, I thought that it would have a manual lock on the inside to prevent any further codes rather than buttons. I never knew that.

1) More people are killed by being kicked by a donkey per year than die in airplane crashes.

2) Apparently there are 2 categories of plane crash divided by the altitude they get into difficulty at. Up to the first height is called the maiming height and above it is the certain death category. The dividing altitude is 3 foot off the ground. Really nor worth worrying about.

3 planes have crashed including the latest one, in the last year say 150 passengers per plane =450 dead passengers
whats your saying is more than 450 people are killed by being kicked by a donkey thats a lot of kicks.

We just have em on blackpool beach but the rest of the world use them like we use forklift trucks and tractors.

What surprised me most was the fact that apparently he pressed a button that ade the plane descend , with computers etc GPS you'd of thought the plane's GPS would of overridden the decision seeing as there was mountains . After all planes land themselves now should be a safety devise fitted to the computer
