Moving House

Hi Gents,

Been a few weeks since I last posted, had a torrid time and unfortunately not had time for cigars :-(

We have had a nightmare with solicitors not communicating with us, vendors losing paperwork and having travel agents lose documents for our wedding (fixed now!)

I'm 26 and this is my first house purchase, is house buying always this full of ineptitude and infuriating?

Just want my keys to my house and my shed to smoke my cigars!!!

Buying our flat was the most frustrating experience of my life, and our move went very smoothly, my sister moved last Friday and after months and months of negotiations and nonsense (they have had to change solicitors, then mortgage companies because the first messed up the valuation and decided that the house wasn't worth the price because there was a little less garden than they thought, the current owner kept pulling out after getting a better offer only to come back to them again). Then at 1pm on Friday (literally as they were moving and weeks after contracts were exchanged) they got a phone call saying they owed ?900 to the previous solicitor (who they couldn't use because of the change in mortgage company) and also had to pay another ?60 because the council wouldn't issue a confirmation the council tax hadn't been paid in full, which my brother-in-law had to pay, they got the ?900 back within one hour and will get the ?60 back as well, but its just indicative of what a nightmare its been.

So in short moving is a nightmare

I went through that a few years ago! my experience was the same, the stress doesn't stop until they hand over the keys!

I'm sure all will be fine though, it's a great feeling once its all done!

Sounds a hell of a story that Sheppsea, hope it doesn't turn into that!!

Its just the sheer lack of urgency they all have. Actually had one person say to me yesterday "Why are you in such a rush to move in?" We've had two months of craziness plus trying to fix problems with our overseas wedding as the travel company are clucking useless and have lost paperwork and generally been useless.

I've not even had time to have a relaxing cigar in weeks.

Cant bloody wait to sit in that garden and smoke a cigar!!

Congratulations bud with the house.
It can be difficult I think the majority of the time.
Especially with chains etc.

After accepting our offer on our current house, it took the previous owners 9 months to find a place and move out. And that was after a 3 year wait of us saving and looking for a house... It was dragged out, putting it mildly. But thank God we have a lovely house & garden. Defo worth the wait

Sounds like owning is a real nightmare i think i will have to carry on renting for now

Have read and do believe that moving houses is more stressful than both marriage and the subsequent divorce combined

I've got all this to look forward to in 6-12months time

I'm not in too much of a rush really though, quite happy to rent for a while. It's a strange culture with the Brits, we are so desperate to become homeowners. We must be one of the only nations with such a high ownership rate.

We do have one of the highest homeowner rates.

Also I don't get why most people think they can afford a nice big 3 bedroom detached house for the first buy. Whats wrong with started with the old 2 up, 2 down terrace houses/.

My wife's an estate agent so I just let her handle it........quite fortunate really as she knows the solicitors, and the mortgage brokers so they didn't do any of messing about. Otherwise I'm sure we would have been in the same boat.

That was our first home wigan 3 bedroom terrace house.
Nothing wrong with them when it's husband and wife only, then kids come along and before you know it you can't move in them anymore
bedroom 3 was a joke coulden't move in there, so it was time to move otherwise we would of been stuck there
older we get the harder it is to get a mortgage,and we don't want to be paying it back in our 70s

Yeah nothing wrong with them as starter home but they don't build them anymore
