  • Where to go....

OK so we're (well I'm... well me and all the other teacher bods round here) are 5 working days away from a mammouth holiday. Except I've not booked anything... as it stands I'm spending 6 weeks looking at four walls doing bugger all. Limited funds for holidays and stuff but the question to you guys is (bearing in mind my base camp is Essex) where would you reccommend for days out or breaks?

    France

If you have a car TJ, then you could look at going over to France and doing some camping.

This would allow you access to those quality French tobacconists

Camber Sands is top class. fantastic beach, great restaruants and pubs all around, and a nuclear power station near by

I'm in the east as well, and am also enduring the extra long vacation that comes as part and parcel of academia (though not teaching).

Here's a list of top stuff that I would recommend --
Southwold and Aldeborough for the beach and top fish & chips
Constable Country for art and walking (Dedham Vale)
        Hatfield Forest
London (for the smoke, of course, as well as Twinings on the Strand, and its very interesting little museum room in the back of the shop)

Hope that is not too dull!

        Deltawhisky, over & out!

Download the map for' cuban cigar walk ' guarantee you will enjoy, as Delta suggests Aldborough, Southwold are nice , step back in time and make sure you try a pint of Adnams.

            5 WORKING DAYS??!!

            HAVE YOU BEEN CONNED?

I finish on Wednesday, and the kids are off tomorrow lunchtime.

We're setting up a PA tomorrow and 'serenading' them off the premises with Metallica and stuff.

I mean the staff musos are playing it!

I get thoroughly bored in this long break, so have tried to fit in a lot of worthy and filthy things to keep me busy.

I love Lavenham and Framlingham Castle.

I used to love Southend Pier til in burnt down.

If you do head to France and are passing through Dover, feel free to PM here for a teacher's cigar convention and some nice cups of tea.

Just make me feel even worse than I do with now four days left Bryan! I am so jealous although I must admit a couple of things:
              - I'm at Thorpe Park tomorrow with Y7 & 8
              - I'm at Clacton on Wednesday with Y10
              - We're shuffling round our academic year for a 2 week October half term :P

Anyways back to the ol' business of where to go - some fabtastic suggestions guys; more than I've managed to come up with at any rate! And certainly more than a few to add to the list. Had a pint of Adnams in Southwold before but I think a step back in time could be just up my street if the weather is nice next week

Are you close to a nervous breakdown? I have been for about a month! This "wind down" is the worst time of the year at our place as it's so bloody busy!

There is a great pub at Pin Mill on the River Orwell a few miles south-east and downstream from Ipswich. It is really peaceful there and wonderful to sit with a pint and a good cigar and look at the yachts on the river.

A great place to chill out.

Ah yes, Lavenham also. That is a stunning little town, and be sure to check out Long Melford for the many interesting antiques shops. I forgot to put that in!

And incidentally, last time I was in London, I took a trip to Temple Church, the home of Da Vinci hype. I was seriously impressed by the beauty of the place. The inside of the Church was fabulous. It took a bit of finding, but is well worth it.
