  • I wanna go on holiday!

I want to go on holiday - was thinking of Spain - but ?700 for a return ferry crossing seems a little steep!
Tbh, I can't face the thought of two kids a powered chair and a baby - the stress will ruin the holiday.
We've only been out of the country twice since Beatrice was born. The first time was a nightmare - short haul planes are not good!
The second was pretty good, but we were waited on hand and foot!
I want to go somewhere hotter than here, where we can hire a villa and spend all day mucking about in the pool - so Spain seemed like a good choice until I saw the ferry costs to Bilbao!
    So brothers - help!
    Suggestions needed for a holiday
    somewhere hot
    that won't break the bank
Where we can get there in the van
That won't take days to get to.....
(cheap sticks would be a bonus, but not a deal breaker!)

I will keep a keen eye on this thread as me and the wife are looking to go away our self’s for a week in April while the grandparents take the children to Disneyland Paris. I too would like to pick up some sticks at the same time. ;0)

The first place that sprung to mind that was hot and reasonably close was the south of France around N?mes, 30?C + during the summer.

I went to a friends wedding in Uz?s, the place itself is very old, cobbled streets everywhere, lots of places to stay in the village and in the outlying countryside. Price does vary a lot.

        Jersey/Guernsey?

My In-Laws used to go to the Channel Islands a lot (as well as Northern France) as my Brother-in-Law was wheelchair-bound and they had the same issues.

Guernsey is awesome, however it can be quite expensive and no cigar places!
SilentBob is quiet no more, name change to VocalBob?

I was only talking to my wife about Jersey and Guernsey this morning, she said she visited there a few years ago and it was very expensive.

Scily isles? Not hot, but usually a little milder than mainland Britain, and you can go on a ferry.

What time of year are you thinking about. Any where in the bottom third of france can be lovely in the summer. We go to an area near Bergerac some great cottages with pools and lots of nice towns and places to visit. Not so good for cigars but you could try some where nearer Andorra and take a day trip there. I was going to say package holiday but I agree with you issues with short haul. There are some companies that specialise in holidays for families with access difficulties.

Rent a cottage in France , I've been going since I was ten with my family now take my own I'm now 47 , my preference is central France perigord region is fantastic as mentioned aboved Bergerac , I would highly recommend Sarlat absolutely picture postcard perfect loads to do in the surrounding area , I rented a beautiful barn conversion a couple of years ago private pool in salignac cost about 1200 for two weeks , I would also recommend not rushing , France is a lovely country and taking a couple of days to get to your destination and investigate a lovely French town is great .
If you want the coast I highly recommend collioure, more or less the last French town before Spain on the med, an absolutely beautiful spot in the Languedoc region.
