That kind of thing would be great as long as the integrity of the sheet doesn't get compromised Marc. Perhaps swap over the top gauge so that it runs the other way?

I swear the UK is the only place where 'Stone' is still a valid and acceptable measurement.

40 rods to the hogshead = 2730 kilometre to the litre.
And I swear poles are who come to fix your furnaces.

Why don't we just go back to using the length of our Pharaoh's feet? At least that was an interesting method of measurement.

I still think that going metric was the start of the demise of maths in British schools

I thought the French came up with the metric system to get away from precisely that after they had finished chopping heads off

Yupp. But they didn't 'come up' with the metric system.

Brought in large part by an English philosopher (at that time, he could be considered a mathematician and scientist) who conceived the idea of linking volume, length, etc into measurements. His ideas were the base of the "system of the metre" and the "system of the kilogramme" that the French used to base their "Metric System" off.
Nowadays, we still credit the French with it. The only kilogramme ever in existence is sealed under argon gas in a French lab. The "International Prototype Kilogramme" is made of 90% platinum and 10% iridium. change the mass of the IPK, and you change the very definition of the kilogramme.

I think there's something similar with the metre...

Henceforth, the rest of this thread will be a random, slightly disturbing banter thread.
