A Cuban cigar guide for Americans

When my friend was in Hong Kong recently they worked out at ?8.20, that equates to $12.70 so they will surely be cheaper still in Cuba.

Nay. Hong Kong has a mediocre tobacco and luxury taxes on their items. The only reason why the so many places based out of Hong Kong are cheaper is because export only companies do not have to pay taxes of any kind. They're going to other countries.

This is why many export companies (based out of Canada, Hong Kong, Australia, China, Switzerland, Peru, Brazil, and others I can't remember) have boxes of cigars cheaper than Cuba. The companies based out of those areas CANNOT ship within their countries' borders.
Mainland China has a few export only businesses selling Montecristo 2s going for $8 each but the mainland price for a Montecristo 2 is $20 MINIMUM.

Based on what I'm hearing from mis yankee amigos, the demand for puros in the US may already be saturated or nearly so. Yes, yes...there will be many occasional smokers and lookie-loos who can't wait to get their meat-hooks around a genuine puro and yes, demand will spike, but many yankee aficionados believe this will be temporary and demand in the US will settle back to what it is now or slightly higher.

You see, the puro holds a mythical status in the US and because of this high expectation, most yankees will be disappointed once they smoke one or two. And given the high price of puros, most will go back to the more affordable NCs or nothing at all for those who just wanted to try one.

That's what I think, anywayz.

This is why many export companies (based out of Canada, Hong Kong, Australia, China, Switzerland, Peru, Brazil, and others I can't remember) have boxes of cigars cheaper than Cuba. The companies based out of those areas CANNOT ship within their countries' borders.
Mainland China has a few export only businesses selling Montecristo 2s going for $8 each but the mainland price for a Montecristo 2 is $20 MINIMUM.
