New film coming soon: Ghost in the Shell

Looks fabulous, blade runner type of thing.

Of course I'm a sci-fi geek so 'Rogue One' is also eagerly anticipated.

      • I note the last post on this thread was about Rogue One, which I found to be very good and less of a "set up the sequel" to Force Awakens, being just a one off. That and the whole "used future" scruffiness was pleasing.

Yesterday I finally got around to watching the most recent remake of The Magnificent Seven (being a sci fi and a Western geek). It was not as good a as the John Sturges, I mean, no Steve McQueen... and it was laden with clich?, but it was enjoyable in a cigar smoking, hat wearing, whiskey sipping, gunfighting, wisecracking way. Plus James Horner (RIP) didn't mess with the original theme tune.

        • A double day today starting with the remake of 'The Magnificent Seven'. I remember watching the original when Yul Brynner collected the seven and they were all stars like Robert Vaughan, Steve McQueen and Charles Bronson. When Denzel collects his seven its more 'who the fuck are you?'. That said it was a decent western.

Next up was 'Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. Not Tim Burton's best and a bit slow to start but with some good scenes. Definitely aimed at Harry Potter fans I felt.

That's on my to watch pile. I'm no fan of Harry potter, but I am most definitely a fan of Eva Green...

I watched that recently, I was fascinated by the fact that these sort of Roarke's Drift typed scenarios keep happening.

The the with this production was that I couldn't stop thinking the CO was that guy from The Fall, which of course he was, where he's so singularly unpleasant that he's somewhat typecast.

In that case I'd recommend 'the dreamers'!

                  • In the last couple of days I've watched the Magnificent 7 which was enjoyable but felt like the main 3 actors were playing themselves rather than the part of a cowboy. I then watched Deepwater Horizon which was pretty good for a disaster movie.

The new magnificent 7? What's it like compared to the first?

Nowhere as good as the original but a passable western for those who may not have seen it. The original had a more authentic feel to it despite the modern version aiming for gritty realism.

I watched it recently too and I concur, the three leads play themselves (though that's okay IMHO, as this is a remake of an adaptation of an adaptation, and Chris Pratt is pretty charismatic).

Again IMHO, its no way as good as the Sturges original, which in turn is maybe not as good as Seven Samurai...

Apologies if maybe a slight thread-jacking

                            • Well as far as remakes go it doesn't sound too bad! It's on sky at the moment so will have a watch
