I thought 'assume' made an ass out of 'u' and me

Had a boss a while back who used to use that one all the time.

Tried to get into conversation when ever I could and use it back and slightly twist it.

Assume makes an ass out of u I would say then stop. He would finish and say and me. To which I would reply that's what I just said.

Not sure he ever figured out what I was doing
