Hmm I haven't had it but a mate got a bottle the other day. There is a cheaper bourbon I want to try. The Woodford Reserve. But mate, that isn't helpful! I was nearly there!!

Why not get Auchentoshan Three Woods and a Bourbon?

Best of both worlds as Three Woods is hugely underrated.

Think I'll grab myself a bottle of that when the Talisker I have runs out Marc, it won't be long cos I got it cheap and I'm drinking it as every day stuff. For the gift I'm split between two bourbons and a whisky at the mo.
    Bourbons are:
    Blantons Straight From The Cask
Stagg Jr barrel proof (because Martyn recommend the big daddy version which isn't obtainable for me)

As I'm a fan of their double woods and Caribbean cask the whisky I fancy is the 17 year old Double Wood by Balvenie.

    It's hard to decide.

Personally I love the Amoroso cask... I love talisker for a start and this has a sweet yet slightly salty complexity going on... great dram and about ?55 a bottle.

I've never really got on with whisky, it's the bitter after taste that I dislike. I tried a sample pack of Glanmorangie from Sainsbury's recently & didn't really take to any of those.
Then i found a sample pack of Jim Beam, Standard, Devils Cut, Red Stag & Honey
I've been dropping hints for a hip flask, for when I'm out with the dog, my research was based on what to put into the flask . Jim Beam is in the lead at the moment. However, I have got one bottle of Havana Club left, that we bought back from Cuba in June..

I have the Blanton's Gold which is great and wouldn't mind trying the rest of the range.

Elijah Craig is very easy drinking.

I was looking at Blantons straight from the cask. And also I saw a really interesting whisky called Slyrs Sherry Edition No1 aged in Pedro Ximines casks. That made me quite excited actually VI's I love that Spanish sherry but sadly I couldn't find it in the UK.

The Macallan Sherry finish is nice but for Bourbon I'd go for something like Blanton's or Elijah Craig. Noah's Mill is supposed to be excellent too.
