I was on the front of pushing it to become an olympic event at one point. Obviously enough people think it qualifies as a sport. They've even started testing for doping and drugs in order for it to fit in the category...

Then a year passed and I just stopped caring about trivial matters that don't concern my life. not sure what happened to the movement after that...

I play from time to time. Try and get a couple of rounds in with my dad a year. Seems I've lost little of my distance from where I played regularly but hell the accuracy has suffered.

Not much on the news, now. Seems like the online petitions don't even exist anymore...

But I did find articles from TIME MAGAZINE, NY TIMES, and a happy slappy article on chessboxing

I am struggling to understand what drugs make you better at chess that you would need tesing for it. Pretty all make you think you are better but as far as I can tell none would improve your game or do I need my horizons broadening?

For competition into the Olympic pool of 28 sports, the chess leagues started to test people for any sort of performance enhancing drugs.

i honestly believe it was a move on their part to get them to consider them for the Olympics. But if you must know, with blitz games, it gets really critical that you not only calm your nerves, but calm your body and play a five minute blitz. I have a hard time controlling my fidgits without the stress of a chess blitz. I get homicidal in some of my motions when I'm playing blitz chess.
Something like blood doping would really get my concentration up if that was the case.

But as Simon Bolivar and I have practiced in the past, the best drugs for a good game of chess is nicotine and some good, Belgian alcohol

Whilst I do consider Golf a sport (its never even crossed my mind that it isn't), what on earth are you talking about chess being somewhat universally considered a sport Jeremy?! It is a board game (all be it one that requires immense skill), if we classify chess as a sport, then so are Snakes and Ladders and Mousetrap! I have never heard of anyone describe chess as a sport

Chess is not a sport. In any way shape or form. It has no place in the Olympics and never, ever will.

                            UNLESS -
The game is carried out on table at standing height and after you've taken your move, you have to complete 50 pushups, 50 squats, 50 chins - every move.
Last man standing wins either by checkmate or by still being standing.

So Golf IS a sport according to that definition.

Chess could be a sport....i would imagine the constant moving of pieces could be classed as physical exertion for some? has anyone seen any chess players sweat....apart from when a pretty lady speaks to them?
