The European Commission says the current ban in enclosed public places doesn?t go far enough and non-smokers are still in danger. But Forest, the pro-smoking organisation, says the scheme is ?dubious, difficult to enforce and a potential death knell for businesses?. Director Simon Clark said: ?If the EU wants smokers off the streets it would be more productive to use resources for smoking rooms.?
Even if the British Government, which banned smoking in enclosed public places two years ago, objects to the EU plan, it could still be outvoted. "
Dubious and difficult to enforce legislation has never stopped the buggers in power having a go throughout history eh? WTF I'm not minimising the impact of the passive debate, or even the unpleasantness of tobaccoan wafts if you don't smoke (as a full-time smoker myself, second hand smoke in the street full on in your face, is a big turn off for me too). However, where will this stop? Are we to see smokers only being allowed to pursue their habit/pleasure...fill in the gaps, in private?
