  • In your opinion, is there a cigar smoker "type"?...

Do you think there is a cigar smoker "type"?
Are certain character traits present? That sort of thing.
How are these cigar smoker traits evident in cigar chompers you know in the flesh, and from what you can glean about members of the forum through their posts?

    I'll start the ball rolling.

There are folk who have jumped in from cigarette habits, and that's fine.

Thinking about the several members from the forum I've walked or herfed with, I'd say we are all interested in cigars and passionate about them.

We are all TALKERS - those of us who have sat around. Nobody is/was shy.

To a certain extent, we want to tell the NO merchants to eff off because we want to enjoy our pleasure.

I'm 50, and I'm really pleased this forum has members who are a lot younger than that. I'd have been posting on a forum like this in my 20s if electricity had been invented back then.

    I'll stop bullshitting.

    In summary, then...

I think cigar smokers tend to be passionate, intelligent and amusing people.

    That's my first lob.

          Not sure.

Do not think there is an absolute type to be honest Robusto. There are a diverse collection of personalities on the forum, and i am sure the majority of us all have very different lives, interests, hobbies etc.

Obviously the common link which brings us together is our uniform love of cigars.

I think it used to be that cigar smokers were perceived to be 'well to do toffs' and middle aged only, with no sign that I recall of younger cigar smokers out there. As 'whisky' said "There are a diverse collection of personalities on the forum", which shows there is no set character anymore which is good and I find the whole choice, advertisment and taking part in cigar smoking a lot more exciting these days. In the publics eye they probably have certain characteristic guidelines still, its the same in a lot of walks of life, you cant go just by looks, Ive experienced that.

                  Very, very good follow-through, cj!

Mike - I see myself as an OUTLAW with a stogie, too!
It's exactly what I'm thinking as I put on my Stetson and head for Thanet whilst working a phat one.

                  I kid you not.
OUTLAW is certainly one way I view myself.

i used to think cigar smokers were mostly well to do business men types with the three piece and the time piece on a chain. then i got a little older a figured out it is not true at all. there are many different types of people on here.

Dont think there is a "type" ,as shown on this forum we're prety diverse with different backgrounds etc, but rather a stereotype, which some of us can fall into sometimes. I have a tendancy of getting the old top hat and monicle out...

Seems to me there's only one characteristic that's common to BOTL and that's due to the nature of the enjoyment of the practice itself. In order to appreciate a cigar, you have to devote time and attention to it. Puffing a stogie whilst playing golf or replacing your carburetor doesn't qualify as being an afficionado. No Type "A" personality would be able to allot sufficient time to properly enjoy a good cigar. So, I believe the common thread here is that a BOTL, regardless of whether he (or she) is a lawyer or a librarian or a llama herder, is someone who takes time to appreciate some of the finer things in life.

                          While We're on the Subject...

Since Sir Robusto seems to be full of questions for us, thought I'd post my own query.

How many cigars do you have?
