I now understand this has been around for quite some time but at the time I was standing in front of the coffee selection at the local supermarket earlier today, I had not heard of it.
A chap I work with often holidays in France. When he returns, he always brings back a supply of finely ground coffee with Chicory, which I understand is a French staple at breakfast time. I have sampled some of this before and I must say it's quite nice. Adds a sort of caramel flavour to the coffee. So, while staring at the coffee selection earlier, this bottle of coffee syrup called CAMP coffee, on the very bottom shelf, caught my eye. So I took a closer look having not seen it before. Ingredients: Chicory, coffee, sugar, water.... Excellent, I'll give that a go. Then I read as part of the suggestions on the back of the bottle, "add to iced cold milk for a delicious iced coffee". Even better! Now I am a sucker for an iced coffee and also know how expensive they can be when bought ready made from a supermarket, so I thought at ?1.70 for some CAMP, it's worth a punt.
Oh my goodness! This stuff is delicious! I have only tried it as an iced coffee so far, but if that's all it ever is to me, I will be very happy with that! Anyone who is a fan of iced coffee, I strongly recommend a go on this!
A few of my slightly 'older' colleagues at work were a little dumbfounded at my elation over this 'new' discovery of mine as I believe this is historically a 'poor mans' beverage! But I like it and highly recommend it!
