DVLA is an completely incompetent body, a friend of mine has to deal with them and their databases etc, they have an error average of over 40% which is unheard of in private business, an utter joke.

I just bought a new car (Yaris hybrid), but since it has low emissions I couldn't give a shit about any of this. I was sent a printed disc for the new car but will never need to display it and I paid nothing on the old car so don't need to reclaim anything (1 litre Aygo). I haven't paid VED for about 3 years now.

Before if the police stopped you just for a check one look at the disc they knew car was taxed
now how long would the procedure take
i heard if there should be some mistake on the system and i get stopped and shows i haven't taxed my car when i have
i'll get a fine till it gets sorted out but there's no points involved. What a nightmare as the saying goes IF IT'S NOT BROKE.

Takes seconds to find out if the cars taxed same as insured. If there is a mistake on the database and your car shows as untaxed you will get a fine through the door regardless of if your stopped or not as offensive to have a car untaxed unless its sorned. I got pulled once as the car did not have a valid tax disc and was coming up as untaxed and uninsured I explained why there was no tax disc (Had bought it online and not got round to putting it up) and one quick check with the radio by the policeman showed that there was a mistake in there screen and it was taxed and insured.

I still don't get how the police know which cars have paid for their tax and which are taking a chance and not paying.

Its on the Police National Computer and the data is fed to automatic number plate readers so you can get picked up by one of those or by a random check. As Rascal said it matters not because the DVLA will send you a fine for not paying if you're vehicle is not declared off road. If your vehicle is not registered then its pot luck with the first two options.

Don't they use that ANPR system which will give them details in seconds. Probably the exact same thing as they would do before. Not sure what all the fuss is about- only thing that I think is odd, is the lack of communication of it actually happening.

Shows how much notice I take! Although the only paper i read is the Metro on the way to work, so could have just missed it all completely.

At the St James St herf I suggested we get a UKCF disc printed to fill the empty tax disc holder we all will have.

Would the UKCF sticker go next to the Black Rat sticker though?
