Flicking through the copy of world encyclopaedia of cigars I got for my birthday and came across a quote that basically says you smoke the same ring gauge as your age. I've only been on cigars 3 months and still settling into what cigars (and ring gauge) I prefer so not sure it applies to me yet but was wondering if it holds true to some of you guys that have been at this game for longer.

The saying in full is "As you approach 30, you have a 30 ring gauge; as you approach 50, you have a 50 ring gauge."

You certianly did Jezza! Anyway, yes I have heard of it, I think it might have been mentioned in the Davidoff biography? It might have been true 50+yrs ago. Younger men smoking smaller quicker smokes & the old men of leasure having the time to smoke larger fatter cigars. The idea was the different draw suited the age - as you get older you prefer the easier draw of the larger RG. Again today we are used to smoking a variety of brands & vitolas so don't think you'll find much evidence of it anymore.

I've heard the quote and like the idea of it, the young gun smoking a cheroot, the mid age on a 40 and grandad smoking a 7 70! Haha well maybe not...

            Thread hijack alert!!!

Simon, I am away this weekend and will be partaking of the old Bolivar CX, notes will be taken for review. When it's gone I will mourne it's passing, it's my most treasured smoking cigar.

Yeah I've heard that one as well from my old man. My favourite RG is robusto though and I'm nowhere near 50!

With my 50th at the end of next month, I'll have to get rid of all my smaller RGs. Bugger

Never heard this one before. So everyone used to stop smoking at 52 then?
